I think he suits the character. Maybe he's acting that awkward way on purpose?

I dont think he is that bad. Cant be any worse than the guy who plays Freddie in HO

For those of you who think Roger cannot act.

Put all of the best male performers in Walford in a dress, wig and make up (Adam, Steve, Jake, Rudolph etc) and imagine how they could make such a scene so very touching instead of a comical drag act.

Not easy to do is it?

I rest my case.

I think he just fine. The episode with him and pam (and Christine) was one of the best for a good while, and he played it brilliantly.

Completely agree, I'm beginning to wonder if the person who said I was channelling Keyser was right

Some people mistake an unlikeable character to bad acting.

I don't think he's an unlikeable character and I don't think he's a bad actor either but it is subjective everybody has their own opinion

Strange how he has always been in work then..not all actors can say that.....he's a good actor, he is playing the part as it's supposed to be played

I think he is doing okay, his style is characterisation through those facial expressions and that interview with the actor, he went to town researching nd building Christine, so i think he is dedicated and a tryer.

I've always thought he should've stayed as a part time character in the Square as funeral director, like before - the Cokers full time inclusion in the show since last year to date has been pretty mind numbing and pointless to me!

He is a good actor playing a part of an eccentric weird bloke. The character he plays is far from the norm and so far removed from any other actor in the square.

It's not his acting that is in question just the part that he plays that some may find totally odd. His acting is far from appalling and he deserves credit for the role that he plays.

Roger Sloman reminds me of Freddie Jones on Emmerdale.

Something else that annoys me about criticism of Roger Sloman's acting is why are people so boring? He's an absolute brilliant character and funny. I love watching him gurn and groan 'Birdie'. You think he's playing Les straight all the time? If Sloman wanted to play it constantly serious as Les don't you think he was capable of finding some middle ground between Les and Christine?

Roger Sloman has brought some light relief, eccentricity and now a unique and sensitive presence to the show and is there to be enjoyed.

I remember him from Crossroads too, i think people have him all wrong and he has a take on a character people are a bit marmite about.

An excellent post.

Les is a fun, larger than life character and Christine is very dignified - two watchable Walford people for the price of one.
