We saw Dirty Den die to at the canal and to add to that they found his body, Sharon originally identified it as his, but the writers just ret conned it for 2003 , just like they have retconned alot of things

I hope Zainab makes a surprise, unannounced return when Masood comes back from Pakistan in the storyline. She needs to go head-to-head with Shirley and Buster. Nina Wadia has been busy with other projects recently so hoping her schedule frees up soon.
I want to see Kim Medcalf back as Sam.
Maybe Zsa Zsa or Carly when Dean leaves.
Sean and Zoe for guest appearances.
Vicki Fowler.
Possibly Rainie as there's still unfinished business with her IMO.

It's more realistic for characters to return if they have family and Friends on the Square. Sharon leaves and returns because deep down she knows She belongs to Albert Square.

zsa zsa was terrible. The character and actress. A guest stint would be fine though.
Rainie again just for a short stint.

That's why I said temporary stints. I don't agree about Sharon but that's fine.
It shows you the state of EE that the majority of threads seem to be about who should return. Wanting it to be what it once was. Surely this awful Kathy return has shown it's wishful thinking coupled with rose tinted spectacles that is at play here. Success is not going to be about trying to recreate the past but learning from it and building new and dynamic characters for the future.

Vicki definitely has reason to come back with Martin and Sharon on the Square. No doubt they'd recast her. The last girl was only around for a couple of years and she left 11 years ago so that's a big gap. Plus the way she switched her accent was awkward lol. Forgot about Spencer, he'd be a good return, but they'd probably do a recast as the original one doesn't act anymore.

BIB Absolutely.
DTC has made little or no effort with his new characters and relies too heavily on a couple of families to try and carry the show. The only one of his returns that has succeeded is Jane, and that's debatable. Besides I feel that her days are numbered now that drippy Kathy is back.

To be fair, he's trying hard to use old and new characters equally. DTC has used the Carters a lot so it's not just old characters. He is giving Shabnam big storylines and he has focused a lot on the Cokers
The problem is that most of DTC's new characters have been shite, so they are relying on the old ones to carry the show. Not a healthy position to be in.
Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the fact that Ian, Kathy and Sharon are all central characters once again. But there's only so long this can go on. And what happens if (as happened in 2005) the central characters start to leave the show?

Exactly. As I saw someone else on here post, some people seem to want Eastenders 'Greatest Hits.' This will only ever be a temporary fix. Some of these actors have left more than once in the past so it is likely it will happen again. You can't force actors to come back. Some people saying to pay absolute fortunes for actors to come back are mad. This will mean they'll have to cut back elsewhere for one or two characters who not everyone wants to return. These returns would also most likely be temporary. Then in three years time they'll want them back again. Repeat as nauseum. Let some characters rest.

While I am not against the occasional returnee, the return of characters like Sonia and 'new' Martin have really watered down the quality and (dare I say...) excitement of the show over this past year or so....and shows the writers/producers alike are running out of ideas or only appear to be able to go forward with the show by fusing old characters as returnees with the new.....such as with Kathy Beale of late.....
Gary, Minty, Dawn, Manda and her disabled son Adam - joking really! They were all terrible actors (and characters!) who I haven't seen anywhere on screen ever since their respective exits from the show all around the same time five-six years ago!

Agreed with Peggy and maybe Grant coming back to spice things up a bit as things are rather bland in the Vic with the Carters now and I think a change is needed there, re Vic ownership soon - even if unlikely! Also Sean Slater would be another obvious contender who still has the potential to return with Stacey and Roxy still in the Square - as he wasn't killed off or anything....

The key issue for the next exec producer is to turn off his/her smart phone IPad and ignore social media. You've got a cabal who seem to believe that you are only a true EE fan if you idolise its history. It is far worse than any other soap for this.

The Vic needs the Mitchells IMO. Kat and Alfie didn't work and the Carters are boring in there.
