Tellymix Suggests Spoiler Websites May Impact Sunday Viewing Figures

There's a report in Tellymix which says:
"Strictly's pre-recorded results shows drag its average viewing figures down, with the result often spoiled online Saturday night through dedicated websites and Twitter feeds."

You may be aware that Dave Thorp has actually purchased the domain name http://www.strictlyspoiler.com/.

I think if someone's a big enough fan to seek out spoilers than they're a big enough fan to want to watch the results show.

I could understand if they're widely available and on the front page of every news paper then the more casual viewer would be like "well won't bother watching that then" but at the moment you have to actively seek the spoilers out and to be willing to do that you'd probably a big fan and want to see everything that goes on Sunday as well.

The risk of inadvertently coming across a spoiler curtails my social networking habits on a Sunday. It's not the end of the world but sometimes I would quite like to peruse the threads in here or have a look at Twitter. It's not just the "GEORGIA IS OUT" risk, it's the hints by not so bright people thinking they're being subtle - "Well that wasn't a bit surprise that the young 'un left but don't worry, I won't say who it is".

This Dave Thorp character seems a bit desperate for attention - the spoiler is (generally) widely available on here and on various Twitter feeds, so I'm not sure why he feels the need to 'position' himself as the official spoiler provider

Still, if it makes him feel important ...

"I'm responsible for the Strictly Spoiler" says his twitter bio *rolls eyes*

I know where I will be going for the Strictly Spoiler - the spoiler thread provided by abigalsmum

I wonder where he gets his spoiler from...........

might keep an eye on his twitter page and see what time he tweets it!

I agree - I read the spoiler but I still watch the results show.

If anything is killing the results show it's the cringe-inducing pro dances. I don't rush to switch on for the start of the Sunday show now as the pro dances are an embarrassment to behold.

I'm pretty sure he gets it from here. I think he's posted in the spoiler thread and said as much - he posted the (fractionally) incorrect spoiler from the first week having got it from this site.

I think he's pretty open & honest that he gets it from here, he always thanks abigailsmum, I do wish he'd acknowldedge abigailsmum on his site though.

There is also a Facebook group dedicated to discussing the spoiler result.

"To discuss Sunday nights result before it goes out on TV. If you don't want to know in advance, please don't join!"

I assume they rely on Dave Thorp's 'research'.

Oh dear ... So desperate to be a big name on the Internet

I always look at the spoiler myself (here).

But I think that knowing the result in advance does diminish the excitement and anticipation of the Sunday show.

There are people who can't wait for the result, get it here and watch the show anyway. Then there are those who only want the result. Those would probably turned on the results show only for the last couple of minutes anyway. Strictly audience is special. We still want to see things as they happen at the first opportunity, no plus one, recordings, etc.

They've pre-recorded the results show since series 8, so saying that it's suddenly dragging ratings down *now* is ludicrous, unless they think it's reached some sort of critical mass of people checking the Internet and not bothering to watch the show.

According to the ratings thread

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...&postcount=186

The results show got 8.66m with a 35.8% share, which seems none too shabby.

It doesn't ruin it for me to know in advance.

I couldn't bear the suspense. I never miss the results show and the results show is also beating XF on Sunday's so it's hardly like its a flop is it?

I participate in the spoiler thread because its a nice place to be on a Saturday night and I like to know who goes because if its someone I like I can prepare myself for the Sunday show. I always watch the results show but I'm not sure I would enjoy it so much if I was on tenterhooks wondering who was leaving.

Abigailsmum does a wonderful job every week and I cant thank her enough.

Perhaps some people who know the result don't watch the Sunday show, but I cant imagine it would be that many.

What did he have on the first week when there was a delay getting the correct spoiler up?

Did he have the incorrect elimination or the correct one before here?

Apparently the week the elimination was correct but the other party to the dance off was wrong, he had the partially incorrect one too (presumably from here).

Which makes his posturing as the big-shot, go-to spoiler guy all the more tragic

I look at the spoiler on here, but I still watch the result show as I enjoy seeing the faces as they are announced safe etc.

Or maybe all the filler bores people?

45 minutes to tell us who's leaving. Not to mention having to watch crap dances all over again - we put them in the bottom two for a reason, not to watch them again!

All the constant "thank yous" and talk of "worst feeling ever" when talking to Claudia after the result. We get it; you tell us every week.

Agreed, I think ratings are going down because the results show is dire.

Dreadful pro dances (used to be the highlight)
Boring singer
Cringeworthy interview with the 2 couples pre-dance off, and asking the judges what the couple needs to do to survive. Which is a daft question.

I used to FF through most of it. Now I find I FF through all of it, so there's no point watching.

I love getting the spoiler result from here on a Saturday night and I always watch the "Sunday" results show as well. If anything, I enjoy the results show more as I already know who's leaving.

Thanks to the moles and provider of the spoilers - hope nothing stops this happening as I would be very
