the Brookside or Hollyoaks poll, made me remember when Brookside fans had to stay up till gone Midnight sometimes to watch it.

If Corrie, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks or Eastenders got axed, would viewers accept the time cgange, personally I dont think the Channels would move them, but jyst carry on at the normal time till the end

I don't think that would happen. I think if a soap got in such a dire situation as that, it'd either be axed completely or moved to something like Netflix. Times have changed.

I'd happily watch a soap in the late evening, as I'm a night owl, but I don't want a 'after the watershed' version. There's already way too much relentless violence and sensationalist stuff in them, without them all going along the lines of Hollyoaks' 'Later' episodes.

EastEnders is an BBC production. Emmerdale and Corrie are an ITV production. They won't be moving away to netflix.

Other than events and shows like GBBO and Strictly EastEnders is the most watched show on the BBC and does a great job im bringing viewers to BBC1 4 times a week 52 weeks a year.

Same with Corrie. Outside of events and the odd show it's ITV's biggest programme.

Emmerdale pulls in the viewers away week nigjts at 7.

None of the 3 soaps will be going anywhere for ages and ages and when the time comes they will be Teatime soaps.

Hollyoaks could be gone within the next 10 years though.

interesting that you fill they will eventually become teatime soaps, and not graveyarded like Brookside and Night & Day

I think a couple of the axed US daytime soaps moved online but not sure they lasted very long. The UK soaps in terms of prominence in primetime and popularity are in a diferent league to the US ones so another soap axing seems unlikely.

I suppose that could happen. I think Hollyoaks has most certainly run it's course, I think it was made to be the teen/tween equivalent of a soap, but it's gotten absolutely awful

Brookside was quite different to the other soaps. Firstly it had already been moved to daytime (4pm on Saturdays I think) and that wasn't really working so late night offered them more options - and at that time they switched to making basically a weekly film rather than airing three episodes back to back. Phil Redmond had been after a post watershed slot for ages as Brookside has historically performed very well for S4C in a 10pm slot - and I do think if C4 had moved it to a weekly hour-long slot at 9pm or 10pm it would have lasted a little bit longer.

If Hollyoaks got axed from it's C4 slot it would likely just see out it's final days on E4. I can't see the other three being axed anytime soon, although we saw how badly the BBC treated the final run of Waterloo Road. I think EastEnders though would get a decent send off, as indeed would Corrie. The only soap I could see being moved from it's slot if it were to be axed is Emmerdale, and that would likely be to daytime rather than late night.
