chrome OS on old laptop

This looks interesting as an alternative to putting pure Linux on an old laptop ie you can install a version of chrome OS on an old laptop.

You can even create a live usb stick, so you do not need to install it even.

No idea what if it is any good or tbh if chromeos is any good, but I might give it a crack as it would be good way of creating a google cloud printer server for example - I know you can do this via Linux, but does involve some effort.

Just tried it and a nightmare to install. I had to download zip file, extract the .bin file, rename as .img file, and write it to a usb stick. Even then it was an installer not the OS itself, and I wanted to create a boot usb stick, but it was unclear if it was going to overwrite my existing OS etc, so I gave up for time being.

Really not clear how this works - don't go there unless you have full image backups of your existing PC. Only works in legacy bios mode as well.

Yes, if you want to install ChromeOS on a laptop you can't officially as it is licensed only to official Chromebooks. You can, however, install Chromium OS which is what ChromeOS is based on and is almost identical, you need to manually install flash,

They say:

Power your computer with the world's fastest, easiest and most simple operating system.

...but they ought to add the word restricted as well.

Far better to add more RAM if there's an existing supported operating system or switch over to a fully functional Linux distribution designed for use with low end equipment.
