Old news but what is your opinion?
Did Bo' Selecta really ruin Craig David's career?

Yes it did.

Bo Selecta! came at a time when there was no real YouTube channels.

They over-stepped the mark.

I like his voice and he will be back.

To be honest though I don't see how Youtube has any relevance.
I do agree, Craig David has a great voice!

Love this part.
"Channel 55 and a box of tissues, that's what I use for me sexual issues."
I'd like to see a new series of Bo' Selecta.
I think Leigh Francis has played Kieth Lemon for a bit too long now.

no, of course not, if anything it made craig david more well known.

what ruined craig davids career was craig david himself who simply wasnt as talented as was hyped. he was a one trick pony, he did what he did very well but hadnt the skill, talent or creativity to follow it through.

But you could say Adele is a one trick pony? Who really cares if that trick is good and that's what people like. This idea that artists have to be brilliant at all styles is ludicrous. I don't see how you can say he's not talented. He had a shelf life like all popstars and personally I think Bo Selecta DID make him a laughing stock in this country. He himself thinks so.

He always came across as an utter pillock before the Bo Selecta thingy to be fair, he was a very easy target to mock.

People forget he was successful in America during a period when not many Brits were. The TV show did hamper him because people don't want to back a joke which was him and his style.

he failed to follow up his initial success, he ran out of new, interesting ideas - so yes he was a one trick pony and that trick (as you point out) hadnt a very long shelf life.

i didnt say hes not talented, i said his talents were limited.

bo selecta took the piss out of michael jackson, did it ruin his career?...

the point is, IF cd was all that great as the hype suggested he was, then he would have carried on regardless. bo selecta wasnt responsible for his lack of decent material - he was himself.

Michael Jackson's career started over 30 years before Bo' Selecta did, Craig David's career started in 2000. It's not unrealistic to assume that the show did affect Craig David's reputation and career somewhat, it's not like he had a long, legendary career behind him when the show started.

I like his voice too but I can't see any chance of him coming back and having any form of success.

Seriously though, his music got too "Americanized" for the UK market. I mean what was he thinking with a song like "What's Your Flava?"🙄
Craigy boy, you are a wee lad from Southampton....nobody speaks like that there!

Yes better then some of Craigs own Lyrics.

I loved Bo'Selecta cannot stand his Keith Lemon character though.

So yes bring it back.

Definitely and anyone who denies it is having a laugh. What always annoyed me is that the public allowed a completely untalented clown like Leigh Francis to ruin this guys career. Hell i''m not even much of a Craig David fan but it was clear that he had talent.

I think chav culture, which thankfully is not as big as it once was in those days playd a big part in it.

Look at poor Connor Maynard.

Has a string of top 10 hits then goes quiet for 18 months. Comes back with a new single produced by Craig David who also appears in the music video and...oops, Connor flops and hasn't recovered since.

Nothing shocking or anything.

Craig was up for 8 awards that year and went away empty handed. However, he was one of the performers on the Brit Awards and whilst performing Fill Me In added this ludicrous rap which pretty much showed up how much of an egoist he had become, and how badly bruised his ego was because he didn't win a single Brit award. It was as if Craig expected to win, and he sulked like a big baby and made sure the entire audience knew how he felt with this stupid verse he added into the song.

In retrospect, performing at the Brit Awards 2001 probably did about as much damage as Bo Selecta did the following year. I suspect Leigh Francis watched his performance at the Brits and thought to himself "what a pompous prick".
