Two threads about them within a week? I smell a rat. Or perhaps one of the Mael brothers. (also, neither OP seems able to use capitals)

Fantastic band... and their work in supergroup FFS (with Franz Ferdinand) has been pretty solid too. I missed them as FFS but saw them live in December.

They never rested on any laurels, did the Mael's.

Here's a bit of trivia, did you know they tried to poach Brian May from Queen in 1974? He very nearly said yes.

I saw Sparks at the Marquee in 1972 and the support was....................Queen!

I have to say Queen were the better of the two but they obviously hadn't become the stadia rock band yet and Sparks were plagued by technical problems.

Classic band, classic tunes and wish they and Franz Ferndinand as FFS would put on somemore shows- they sold out rather quickly.

I saw Sparks live last December doing the 'Kimono My House' album. I thought they were excellent and would definitely go and see them again. Russell's live vocals were mightily impressive.

One of my dream gigs, really. I didn't know Sparks had issues on the night!

The image on the cover of Queen's self-titled debut album comes from that very show. Link here

If I remember correctly it was just something simple like a loose connection but instead of having lights up and sorting it out quickly a couple of roadies were stumbling around in the dark with torches checking the wires...........and there were a lot of wires on a small stage in those days! No complaints though as there was a voucher in NME which gave admittance at something silly like 1p! Those were the days.

Not just the 70s either - I love in particular Li'l Beethoven (2003) and Hello Young Lovers (2006). Love Dick Around!

Number 1 in Heaven is my favourite Sparks album. Who else would have written a song from the point of view of sperm? That album is also one of the best examples of late 1970s foreshadowing the sounds that were to dominate the next decade: it's been written so many times including by the OP of this thread but Sparks really were ahead of their time.

Number 1 in Heaven has got to be one of the best things Giorgio Moroder was ever involved with too. I could never get bored listening to it.

Number 1 In Heaven would be an awesome funeral song. <makes note>
