I know he isn't that popular but I LOVE me a bit of Phil. 
He has so many good tracks (I Wish it Would Rain Down is one of my favourite songs of all time) and he used to put on a great live show. I'm glad he's back.

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your asshole. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.
I like Phil Collins and glad he's back however I'm not sure how successful these reissues of the albums will be as so many already have them.

I guess he's looked round at the current crop of 'stars' Adele, Smith, Sande, Sheeran and realised MOR blandness is back in fashion - the trademark of his solo career.
It will be interesting to see what direction he goes in.
Some seem hate him for the direction that Genesis went in after he took over the lead vocalist role from Gabriel. Collins was reluctant to replace Gabriel, but it worked looking at the amount of records they sold. It's very similar situation to Fleetwood Mac, they were way more successful with Buckingham and Nicks than they were under Peter Green.
He was a highly successful artist in his own right, sold over 100 million albums so he clearly did something right.

Every word out of his mouth that isnīt about murdering people is some sort of empty catchphrase he picked up from some magazine. Later Genesis records are more popular so he likes them because he wants to fit in. :

It's hard to choose a favourite among so many great tracks, but "The Greatest Love of All" is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation, dignity. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves. Since it's impossible in this world we live in to empathise with others, we can always empathise with ourselves. It's an important message, crucial really. And it's beautifully stated on the album.

Not so. It was more like that when Peter Gabriel was still the vocalist. Genesis's best work (imo) was just after PG left in 1975 up to Duke. After that it all went downhill afaic..
