Huawei Mifi - No internet in Vista
I've got a Huawei Mifi. The internet can be accessed okay via the Mifi using a Acer Iconia tablet. However, on my laptop, in Vista it connects to the Mifi, but in the right corner of the task bar it says 'Access: Local Only' when hovering the mouse cursor over the network icon.
On the screen 'Connect to a network', when I right click on the Wifi connection and click on Diagnose, it displays this message as shown in the screenshot below. http://s12.postimg.org/643nk1nwd/netwrk_error.png I tried clicking the last option to reset the network adapter, but that didn't solve the problem. So im not sure at this stage how to resolve the problem. Advice appreciated, cheers. |

Can you get to the mifi login page from the machine? If so check the DHCP settings and the APN settings are as per recommendations from the network.
I'd open the cmd prompt by going to cmd from 'run' on the start menu and type ipconfig /release, followed by ipconfig /renew and post what happens. Not all sims are permitted in Mifi's is it a proper mobile broadband sim? if so call the network and they'll help you get connected. If it's not a broadband sim then your provider might not permit the sim in a mifi device. |

I entered the IP address which is given in the Mifi instruction booklet, but it just displays an error. Quote:

No, I can't get on the mifi login page. Is that the same as the Web Management Page?
I entered the IP address which is given in the Mifi instruction booklet, but it just displays an error. Yes, it's a proper mobile broadband sim. The Mifi was provided by Three and has a Three mobile broadband sim in it. I'd go to the IP address of the management page from the tablet and check the menu for DHCP settings and make sure it's on auto. I'd also go to your network adaptor settings in Vista, select the network adaptor for the wifi, right click and check the properties. Inside there it needs to say "obtain and IP address automatically" and both sections should be auto. Alternatively you could call Three, they can be really helpful and I'm sure they see lots of similar issues. |

Right, so it's definitely the Vista settings or Mifi settings then, if it's a proper sim and if you cannot get to the IP address in the instructions. So you are able to select the wifi and connect, but no IP address is issued by the Mifi by the sounds of it.
I'd go to the IP address of the management page from the tablet and check the menu for DHCP settings and make sure it's on auto. I think it's currently set as that to "obtain and IP address automatically". I'll check it again.

Update- It connects to the mifi okay now. One of the settings IPv4 wasn't set to obtain the IP address automatically. Thanks.
