I'm not enjoying mainly because of the Kathy storyline, I just couldn't really give a toss about Kathy at the moment and wish I could just ff through it all although Ben has been really good in his scenes. It has been a lot worse at times over the years so I can't vote for saying it's crap.

It's been so-so, I thought tonight was fanastic though.

They need to stop with the block storytelling though, it just doesn't work with long running storylines.

Agree so much.

You just can't compare her then to the moody bore she is now.

And yeah, the block storytelling/on and off nature of these secrets is driving me round the bend. It still hasn't been explained why Ryan returned for all of a nanosecond last September.”

Agree with this 100%.

1. Too many storylines being dragged out unnecessarily
2. Too many characters have been made totally unlikeable

I got bored with the show during the Carter takeover earlier this year and switched off for a few weeks, There was an improvement over the summer, but it's dipped again and it's mainly down to the fact DTC just doesn't know how to progress or conclude storylines. He just drops these bombshells and then has no idea where to go with them. Every major storyline in the show has become boring and repetitive to a ridiculous degree. Bobby the killer; Dean the psycho rapist; Ronnie controlling Roxy; Kim and Vincent; Sharon and Phil - all going in circles.

DTC loves to talk about how the show needs "long running drama" but ffs this is beyond a joke now. How difficult is it to know when it's time to wrap a story up? Long running drama only works if there's enough twists and turns to keep the story interesting. What we have is padding; dragging the story out literally for the sake of it. Either the writing team are incompetent or DTC has completely run out of ideas.

I've missed the last two episodes and I'm really not fussed about catching up on them.

It also doesn't help that I only like about 50% of the cast. Massive clear-out needed.

At present the show is a mess. Episodes seem to be dragging on like hell.
Storylines are dropped and then picked up for a few episodes and then disappear all of a sudden. Minus the odd good episode the show has been terrible.

Characters like Martin,Kush and Shabnam are bringing iconic characters like Stacey down and all 4 of them have become such a bore to watch.

Anyone else struggling to care about EastEnders right now?”

Which poster on here have you had a personality transplant with that's what I want to know

The boring Mitchell dominance is annoying. I do like the fact Kathy has come back and I'm curious about Gavin but I could do without the Sharon and Kathy scenes. Gillian Taylforth is a good actress even so. The Carters were ruined by the rape and too much emphasis was put on Dean/Shirley/Mick and Buster. I also wonder if pairing Ronnie and Mick in an affair might be interesting especially if they kill Dean. The block storytelling is spoiling the show definitely. Right now there is far too much from the Mitchells because of the block storytelling.

The answer is so simple: Bring back J-B's Lauren.

I am still finding EE watchable, but definitely not as good as this time last year. As everyone has said, there's too much block story lining, I just get interested eg in Les or Lee, and then.....nothing more about them for weeks.

I also feel the show lacks light and shade. There's too much emphasis on gritty drama, and not enough humour to give a sense of perspective.

In short, the show has started to believe its own publicity. It makes too many assumptions and doesn't work hard enough at drawing us in and and allowing us to actually care about characters.

Yep the "secrets" thing seems to have become a bit of in joke for the writers, everyone must have one so they just make stuff up or rewrite history (Kat did not have two children for example!!). They obviously can't think up why Ryan returned or what Libby's secret is!

They have too many unlikeable characters - Aunt Babe sold babies and now we act like nothing has happened! Dean is a rapist, and Ian / Jane have let an innocent man rot. Eastenders always seemed to have a better moral code.

Drag things out and block storytelling (I say no more)

Plus terrible rushed exits and the loss of the best actress in Carol!

Shabnam isn't that terrible. Did you feel sorry for Shabnam in the stillbirth episodes and do you think Rakhee can act?

I think she is. The character bores me to death. The actress is not all that great and the stillbirth left me feeling cold. It had the makings of being brilliant but the acting let it down i feel.

So didn't you think Rakhee was good in the stillbirth episodes when Shabnam had to give birth didn't you feel sorry for Shabnam at all then?

Nancy and Tamwar are a good a couple and I would hate for them to leave. Even though I think Sam Womack can act I agree I think Ronnie should leave. I don't want Martin to leave we need Fowlers on the Square. Linda Henry is such a good actress so I don't want her to leave. Shabnam is a good character maybe if you ever become EP could you give her, Nancy, Tamwar, Martin and Shirley a chance maybe give them all a good storyline. Its not the characters/casts fault you want Shabnam, Nancy, Shirley, Kush, Tamwar, Martin and Paul to leave I think all characters should be given a chance each time under a new EP because they could become better characters.

The Beales have been completely destroyed. I'm glad Peter showed his disgust and left before he was brought down with the whole mess too.
At least if they do bring him back with a new head he won't be sullied like the rest of them.

The Kush / Shabnam / Stacey thing is beyond tedious, cannot even be bothered to comment further.

Like the Carters but I've had enough of the Dean situation.

Don't even get me started on Ronnie without a heart. She thinks nothing now of taking a life. I can't even count the amount of times she has jumped the shark.
Her story needs to be wrapped up and done.

The Christmas episodes were some of the best I have ever seen in any soap and I am sure Eastenders will get back on track.
Sadly, its in trouble at the moment.”

What a great post. Written with no family / character bias so prevalent on here. EastEnders is in trouble and it started with live week.

I still quite like Ronnie, Nancy, and Shirley but otherwise pretty much this. Nu Martin's a laddish idiot, and I don't know if it's just me but I've always noticed a hint of misogyny and sexism about him and Kush, the way they talk as if it's only women who have feelings.

Shabnam is good in small doses but I am a bit over her 'repressed' thing now.
Kush, I am neither here or there about.

Whilst I wouldn't mind seeing the back of a few characters that's not the answer to the problem. The blame for this mess lies firmly with the storyliners and TPTB that sign off on this rubbish. And those who decided to axe decent characters to sign up poor ones.
