If you had asked me 2-3 years ago, I'd have said yes. 2012/13 was so bad I genuinely felt like EastEnders was on its way out.
It's a bit boring at the moment, but not as bad as it has been in the past. |

No. For me personally Eastenders is suffering from a bit of inconsistent quality at the moment (some eps fantastic, others right crap) which I think is mainly to do with Block storytelling and drawn out secrets. Its not dying and not like it was 2011-13.

If you were EP whhich characters would you axe and which characters would you keep and which characters would you bring back permanently and and which characters would you be on the fence with so not sure if you would axe or keep? What storylines would you do? This question can be for everyone.
TPTB must take responsibility for what's happening and not blame their actors...they can only work with what they're give. |

It's not down to the characters. How has axing Lola, Aleks, Charlie, Liam, Cindy (and ? Kat and Alfie) improved the show. Or losing Johnny, Stan, Peter, Carol, Max and Lauren. So many good characters have been lost one way or another.

Lauren and Max will be back next year. Im hoping Kat and Alfie will be back next year permanently. Do you think its time for a new EP to come in or should we wait a bit longer?

I wouldn't say it's dying. In my opinion, it's getting better. It is now much more dynamic and interesting than it used to be.

Eastenders is my first "go to" soap. When I've recorded them all, it's always the first one I watch.
I know the soaps can be a bit far fetched sometimes, but they are supposed to represent real life. Real life isn't one "story" after another. I don't understand why people say storylines are dragging out - when something bad happens in our own lives, it isn't over, done and dusted in a matter of weeks, it takes a long time for us to get over things and to come to a conclusion. |

All the soaps are dying. It's just when it will happen. 10 years ago EastEnders and corrie were getting regularly 8-9m emmerdale probably around 7m. Now EastEnders and corrie are getting around 6mm excluding special eps, Emmerdale 5-6m. So in another 10 years a good day for EastEnders and corrie will around 3-4m and emmerdale around 3 million. So in 30 years time how many people will be watching? One thing is certain viewing figures ain't going up.

It's not dying, it's drowning.
Most of 2015 has been a spectacular fail, but no I don't think it's on it's way out just yet. Just needs a overhaul. |

BIB I agree with that. But not so many people should have found out who killed Lucy and kept quiet and let an innocent man go to jail. The rape storyline should have ended in January when Linda told the police.

What it needs is a proper decent EP, like J-B or I.

I think the problem is, if these storylines were happening when there was 2 episodes a week, or maybe 3, they would be happening to a similar timescale, but now, they have 4 episodes to fill, and if stories are concluded too fast they would start having storylines repeat themselves over and over and over - or have periods with no stories at all.

It's boring at the moment but to say it's dying is a bit melodramatic!
