Do you only like your favourite or can you really appreciate an amazing performance?

I have a couple of contestants I like this year - 4th Impact, Louisa, Lauren, Che, Sean, and Monica

However I will often change my mind as the series goes along, if other acts really impress me or my own favourites start to fall apart

ie Ben last year I thought he was kinda OK, but by the end of the series I was happy he won, he had a great voice and personality. Loved Andrea he got better every week. Lauren, liked her but then she got a bit dull

Just Curious of others thoughts?

I definitely can - although my favourites are 4th Impact, Seann & Monica - I'm hoping they all have 'a moment', it makes it more interesting. I just appreciate a good singer, so here's hoping we get some stand out performances

I can appreciate when someone does a good performance whether they are my favourite or not, last year I found myself appreciating a number of performances from people who I didnt like at all. However Fleur was a firm favourite from Judges houses.

I'm not fans of 4th Impact, Bupsi, R&B, Monica or Anton but If they do something that impresses me, i'll be all out with the praise. I'm rooting for Lauren Che and Sean this year so hopefully they will impress week after week.

I can see good performances even if they're not my favourites. If the contestant has an attitude I don't like or just generally irks me - like Andrea last year - then I won't take to the performance no matter how impressive it was.

There are two acts that i like in the final, and the rest are just so bad i could not care less about them.

I could enjoy anyone's performance as I could also dislike a performance by my favourites whatsoever.

I can enjoy most performances. There have been the odd exception, like when I just can't like a certain person - it doesn't matter what they do I won't like it! But most of the time anyone can win me over.

Surely that means "no" - you can't appreciate someone who isn't a favourite? Not being able to look past a singer's personality despite an impressive performance, is exactly what the OP is talking about.

I think not being able to separate personality from performance is a tad immature to be honest. I'd expect that from someone who was very young but an adult really should be mature enough to admit when someone they don't like has done well.

I think this is a good point I defo can like anyone as im an open book but it does seem like some people have already written off some acts and even if they would give a good performance would still be like nah wasnt that good they were off in a certain bit.

but from the comments it makes me happy as everyone sound really open to being impressed by anyone

Just everyone make sure to vot for who impresses you as no one is safe as this year i really dont think there is a clear front runner!

I genuinely believe all acts have some talent at least...so, I'm open to liking everybody... Even if I do have my favorites...

I haven't really got any firm favorites at the moment although I'm most interested in seeing how Lauren, Anton, Che, Max and Seann perform on Saturday. I can enjoy performances by any of the others and if there are any free votes going on the app this year, will vote for anyone who's performance I enjoy most on the night.

Tbh, I watch XF as an entertainment show and not with any loyalty to a contestant or expecting to find someone I'd pay money to hear. So I'm willing to give every act a fair crack and will say if I think they did well or not.

Obviously, there are acts that are more my cup of tea but there isn't and never really has been anyone in XF history who is my sort of artist

They would have to be exceptional to win me over. It could happen but if I've not been wowed yet by one of the final 12 then chances are they're not likely to make me think "whoa, where did that come from?" tomorrow night.

i'll probably get flamed for saying this but i find it quite bizarre and more than a little bit scary the lengths that some people will go about acts who are singing karaoke on a TV reality show

i have no problem praising a good performance from any act whether it was someone i had previously liked or not, i will probably give someone more of a benefit of the doubt based on the style of music they are trying to do, but the unconditional, blind fanaticism that some show where their "favourite" can do no wrong and anyone who is a threat is some tone deaf scrub bemuses me.

Yep...........

It amazes the living crap out of me how some are already decreeing acts as either the bestest singer in the whole world ever, destined to be bigger than Stevie Wonder or else absolute rank losers who can't hold a tune in a bucket and who will be hated so much that public flogging is too good for them - before any of them have actually performed!!

The blind fanaticism and hatred for acts and the abuse hurled at anyone daring to disagree is bordering on terrifying and so far outside my realm of understanding that I just can't get my head round it

That's pretty much me as well. I can see pretty much who I think I'm going to like straightaway (at least usually I can ) but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the others to some degree. I have to admit it took me a while this year to decide mostly I think it's because I'm not quite as impressed as previous years and with the exception of 2 maybe 3 acts I don't really care too much for the others right now. The 2 I'm kind of backing are 4th Impact and Louisa this year. But then I'm only judging this on the Judges houses stage atm as I don't really watch the audition stages. I start with JH get an idea of who I like and then get behind them in the lives assuming there's any there that impress me.

You can see that a performance is good and acknowledge it without having to like it.

Alien are good dancers, good singers ,good rappers. All really talented girls. Do I like them? No! But I do look forward to their performances some how.

Same with Fleur last year. I didn't like her voice but that doesn't detract from the fact that she's a decent performer.

I'm pretty open-minded when it comes to contestants on the show, anyone can win me over.
In the past I've ended up supporting people I originally disliked in the audition stages and vise versa.

I generally have a few favourites but can definitely appreciate a standout performance from somebody else. I always vote via the app and sometimes if I think someone other than my favourites has been exceptionally well I'll give them a vote. Conversely, if my favourite does absolutely awful I might not vote for them that week.

For me it boils down to originality. ..same old same old that I saw in series 1, aint gonna get me hyped up and yearning for more.... (unless the artists names are G4 and I know they still delivering what they do best..and more).

Times are changing in the music industry and someone bringing on the entertainment should adapt to changes around them also. ...yes I do/did have favourites....but that only came about after I saw the initial performance. ....and they did something against the 'norm'....then thats when I support them as much as I can. ..both on and off the show! !!

I find my favourites generally change with performances as opposed to I'll listen to a bit of someone and go "Right. I like them from now on."

Thought Reggie and Bollie were an absolutely crap decision going in, loved them on Saturday. So they've won me over for now, and I'd have voted them if I had the app.

Similarly, I've loved 4th Impact all throughout and thought they were bad on Saturday, so I wouldn't have given them any votes this week.
