You can't blow out a Zippo lighter.

The episode in and of itself was decent. The hype (and one review I read made it sound much more filmic than it ended up being so for once it's not just film on here hyping things up) meant that I was ultimately disappointed. The cliffhanger was wrong for a start - I think it'd have been much better to have again arrive and deal with Gavin and then discover who he was... But then that would have meant sacrificing the "hello princess" line.

Kathy should have sent Damien out to clean the window lol

In revealing that Gavin is Sharon's Dad this means he won't be killed off, not yet anyway. Which is sad as some have said on here the story should have concentrated on Kathy, Gavin and Phil. I was expecting something more explosive than what happened.

While some hail DTC as the saviour, i really do hate what has done over the past few years with creating past stories to create new storylines. It's almost becoming similar to the Oz soaps where from one week to the next you don't know what is round the corner rather than just telling a story.

I thought it was the best episode in ages. We all knew who Gavin was but that duff duff gave me life. It's about time Sharon got a decent storyline of her own and Gavin is brilliant. Long live King Gavin!

Gavin being Sharon Dad is the same vein as Shirley being Mick Mum. Added level to storyline. With both there was an underlying story running and the parentage on top just makes it more complex. You end up with the prolonged storylines and focus all over the place.

I was waiting for either Ben or Kathy to shove a firework into Gavin's chest and kill him. Oh, well, you can't have everything.

"Hello, Princess" was good though - he sounded exactly like Den when he said it.

It's surprising how many DS members think he must be frail just because he's an older person, and the fact that it's mind games that Gavin is playing rather than going around beating the crap out of people seems to have gone way over peoples heads.

Ok I'm completely against storyblocking so not completely on DTC's side....but isn't soaps or watching drama all about not knowing what's going to happen and being excited for a story to unfold?? The only reason why people are disappointed is because they've read spoilers or found from another source what's going to happen in the episode Before it Airs....and so obviously will have an anticlimax. For example, How can you be emotionally involved in Stacey's shock if you already know the surprise of the episode will be her getting an electric shock and you know what's going to happen?

If you haven't read any spoilers or any other sources and were still underwhelmed that fair enough, but I personally avoided all threads about Halloween Stacey or Kathy/Ben spoilers and online pictures....and I thought the episode was great.

Yes it was as well as being overhyped!

The first half an hour was complete filler episode stuff and Gavin not turning up with his hired goons and managingf to outflank everyone still? I don't think so.

I think its high time and more than fair enough for Phil to hire some younger muscle to help keep "rivals" away from encroaching onto "his patch", I mean all the other gangsters that have crossed the Mitchells over the years have done that so why not Phil too in his older years?

On Ronnie, she seriously needs to let it go generally esp on looking out for her stupid idiot sister! Let Roxy learn from her own mistakes if she wants too, she'll eventually get the messege though having said that, she could be seriously hurt one day by the psycho's she ends up going with (Sean/Carl/Dean before anyone goes into thought police mode on the psycho comment!) so maybe Ronnie is right to look out for her but Ronnie goes to far too.

Gavin being with a character was dead and also being the real father of the character who happened to be with the ex-husband of said dead character is not "complexity" it's dreadful writing.

The "hello princess" eugh... when did Den and Gavin get together to discuss that one? Just shoving in "classic" lines because the current production team are too feeble to create their own memorable stories and characters.

Quite. And the BIB bugs me more than anything else. Nothing is fresh and they're not interested in creating exciting new characters. We get the Frank clone, the Peggy clone, the Archie clone .....

It's not gone over mine.

Some do not seem to understand that Gavin is not a small time bullying thug like the Philth but a manipulative high functioning psychopath who is prepared to do anything to get his own way.

Violent scumbags like Mitchell are ten a penny (there are a couple in just about any working class pub) - people like Gavin are not.
