It's to stop selective abortion.

She should be past that date so not sure what the problem is.

Isn't she about six months so could have found out at a scan anyway? I didnt get it either

Was it maybe because Shabnam & Kush were there as well? Then again if she didn't want to say it in front of them she could have asked them to leave or asked Stacey if she didn't mind them being there whilst she found out.

You can be told the sex at the 20 week scan and abortion is legal up to 24 weeks so it can't be for that reason.

The writers hadn't decided what sex it would be.

Some won't say for their fear if getting sued if it's wrong

Just a thought, but could it be an intersex baby? I don't think that has ever been tackled in a soap before and would be quite a fresh direction for Lacey Turner.

There are lots of hospitals that do not tell the sex of a baby. It dosen't stop them getting a private scan to find out.

I've heard of hospitals that won't say as a matter of policy.

Sounded ridiculous to me. Maybe the nanny state has extended to A&E as well, and only obstetrics staff are 'licenced to sex'

Yes but couples who find out they are having a girl and don't want it can go to other desperate measures in order to get rid of they want to. It's very sad but that is the reasoning.

This was the policy at the hospital I was born in. It was because we lived in a London area of a high ethnic minority population with a culture that favoured baby boys over girls.

But Stacey is way past the point of having an abortion. So I don't get that point. Even at 20 weeks if a person wants an abortion based on gender, while its awful I'm not sure why the NHS should regulate against it since you can have an abortion if it just happens to be an inconvenience in your life.

How is picking on the basis of gender any worse than just not being in the right place career-wise or some of the other half baked reasons sometimes used.

Do you have to give a reason for wanting the abortion? Why would you not just say that you weren't able to keep the child or some other reason. Isn't that a rather personal issue that nobody else should be able to make that choice for you? But yes, its awful that some people wouldnt want a baby because it was the wrong sex.

Thats what I mean, why is the NHS only concerned when it comes to sex selection but not any other reasons a person may have. What is their criteria to justify a "good reason" exactly and as you said do you need to even provide a reason.

I dont understand it, either. I dont feel that the NHS has the right to regulate who has an abortion or not. Thats for the parents-to-be to decide.
