You might have a point, though the former scenario of Den secretly having feelings for Sharon and putting all his energy into covering it up would have been quite interesting.

I totally agree. his "homecoming" was made out as such a big deal and yet was over so swiftly, due to factors outside the screen.

DTC, I hope and believe, feels passionately about the history of the show and I think he would have used Den more widely than what actually occurred on screen which was essentially his decent into just a sad old man roaming around the square upsetting people
