More likely to do with costly licensing agreements. You may also notice a lot fewer American imports that are aired on the BBC actually appear on the iPlayer.

Indeed, ITV Hub now publicially announced as go live on the 24th. Hopefully the stick will get this also on the 24th.
Will the ITV player app update on Fire TV box or will it be a new app to download?

Before we get too excited, this appears to be nothing more than a rebranding. i.e. changing the logo on the app artwork.

Once the app is fired up, it is little more than the old ITV Player, at least for the moment. I expect (well, with ITV, hope) that tomorrow when ITV Hub officially launches, we'll see the real ITV Hub beneath the new logo.

Well let's hope something changes tomorrow, as it still can't be added to the stick.

On my Nexus 7, it worked earlier on the new player. Just tried it again and it says can't connect.

Well I think the rebranded front and app logo are the changes and that seems to be it - a really huge step forward by ITV (apply sarcasm as necessary).

Having said that, it does the job - well at least it would if they would release it to the Fire TV stick.

It certainly looks at the moment that this is it, and if that is the case, this could be the "meh" of the decade.

That said, the Amazon Fire TV App clearly says that it includes live TV, and we don't see anything but the brand change. Why would it say the new ITV Hub is the home of live TV when it doesn't offer it?

Likewise, the iPad app was supposed to have a swipe to change channels, and there is none of that yet. I even have a video of the swipe feature on the iPad and the update app looks different.

These suggest ITV Hub is still to come... hopefully... but gosh it doesn't look promising...

... actually, I take all that back. It really looks like this is it.

I've found the horizontal swiping between channels, so it looks like the iOS app is really it.

As for the Fire TV app, the bit where it talks about live TV seems to be just copy/pasted from the Android mobile app. Seriously... if you go as far as pressing "more" it mentions 4G access.

ITV's chief executive Adam Crozier had said he wanted ITV be more like the American networks and I guess this is just part of that. American networks, despite being FTA have very basic catch-up services unless you pay extra money (either via cable, Hulu or their own subscription), and as ITV drop further and further behind when compared to the competition, it becomes more and more like this is happening. He even wants retransmission fees (which will see the end of free simulcasts like FreeView) and he has been testing pay TV options for ITV already.

Such a pity...

A pity indeed, but still only on the Fire TV box and not the stick...........why?

I side loaded it today using app2fire plus using the Wukong air mouse to access inputting your postcode to make it go and after all that flaffing around it was a bit too clunky for me so I won’t bother with it until its officially on the stick.

Was only able to view the live channels as I could not scroll down to where I assume the catch up stuff is and although the picture is naff when the channels first starts it does improve after a few seconds or more have gone by.

For now though, might as well just use Freeview for what its worth.

You'll get the usual "we don't disclose our plans until they are publicly announced but we are working hard to be on more platforms."

On a slightly different note, Amazon are looking to put more streaming providers on their Prime Service, so we could see Netflix, Hulu, HBO etc partnered up with Amazon. Wonder if this has anything to do with Amazon not selling other streaming devices except their own.

Amazon sell all the Roku devices.............

Yeah, and will continue to do so as they have added Prime to it.

Amazon won't sell devices anymore where they have not added Prime.

Yes, I've heard back from my contact in ITV and they are saying there is a (and I will use their words) "slight" delay on releasing the ITV Hub app on to the Amazon Fire TV Stick due to a technical issue.

This is good news as it does mean it is on its way, although I have no other information there other than the words "slight delay".

The bad side is that unfortunately this won't be any different to the Box version. In other words, there won't be any live streams for the time being. No idea when the apps will be updated for that.

Any more news on the 'slight delay'?

I have been hearing "mutterings" recently that it has been delayed until the Fire OS 5 software update hits the Fire TV Stick.

The thing is, this doesn't make sense to me, because ITV Hub is available on the 1st generation Fire TV Box which is also awaiting the firmware update.

If it was only on the latest model, that would seem logical.

If it is awaiting the Fire OS 5 software update, then we have to wait until January when that is scheduled. The "slight delay" is becoming ridiculously long to be honest.
