Would Switch up week work in the UK?

Having watched a few of the US series videos I wonder if doing the Pro switch would work over here? See how well the celebs do with a new partner and could they still be as good, or better, with someone else.

If we did have it who from the current group would you like to see together?

This sounds like a good idea to me.

It would be nice if Specialist Professionals were swapped for the alternative discipline where ther is an obvious weakness. So Katie would have a Latin Specialist for a week whilst Jamelia could have Anton to improve her Ballroom for instance.

Peter could have a week with Joanne for Ballroom and Jeremy could have a week with Natalie so he could do a ballroom to his height.

No it is terrible in the US and would be worse here.

I think it can be interesting to see new partnerships, at least temporarily. Some times when a pro has been injured another has stepped in and those new temporary partnerships have sometimes raised questions as to whether that partnership would have been a good one from the outset. But then again if it is only temporary it may have been different longer term. It generally works well when the injured pro comes back, I can only remember one instance when it backfired (Ola and Sid) though there may be others?

Yes I would like to see it for one week only, Would be a test for the celebs to work with a different pro with perhaps slightly different teaching methods and ideas.

Peter could be paired with Natalie...it would be funny.

I think it would be an interesting experiment just for one week, perhaps when they get down to 8 or 10 couples. It might be fun to do a 'pot luck' swap and include the pros whose partners have already left. The problem I foresee though is if it ends with a shock elimination there would be shouts of unfair.

I've never seen it. How does it work? Is one couple voted off as usual?

think it would be good let people vote for the partnership changes on ITT.

The remaining celebs are given a different Pro ( one still in the competition) and they train for the week then dance the following Saturday with that Pro. A bit pf pressure on the Pro to try and ensure that their temporary celeb stays !

It would be interesting to see different partnerships, but I think it could end up causing problems. It would be good to answer questions like whether Katie's latin problems really are all Anton's fault etc., but if she was much better with someone else and then had to go back to Anton, how would she feel about it and how would it affect viewers' perception of their partnership? If someone clearly liked their swapped pro or celeb better would there be resentments the following week and would the audience be put off that pair thinking how much better it could have been? I seem to remember a few niggles with the pros on DWTS. I'm also not keen on the way they vote for it on twitter over there and then TPTB seem to put them with who they want anyway.

The points and the viewer votes follow the celebrity. They sometimes (always?) carry those forward without an elimination for the actual switch week iirc.

I've always enjoyed it on DWTS. It's just interesting to see a new dynamic and most of them seem to do well with a new partner for a week.

I don't think it works in the US (few things do) - just get the partnerships right in the first place rather than having the need to switch them about to see what might have been.

I'd hate it. I like the relationships between celeb and pro

I don't like it. I stopped watching DWTS just as this sort of gimmick crap started choking the show, and this one in particular seems dumb to me. Also it got hysterically nasty over there over it this year, with Derek fans all but accusing Val of physically and verbally abusing Bindi when he got swapped in to partner with her just because they hated the idea of him getting his hands on her as a partner, to the point where he felt he had to issue a denial. I appreciate that the hardcore of DWTS fans are something else compared to over here, but it still just seems to cause bad feeling more than anything else.

When it's happened in practice over here it's never really enhanced my enjoyment to be honest. Anita having Brendan for a week told me nothing, not even Ian being able to get decent ballroom out of Michelle told me she was a lost cause, and whilst I loved Holly & Artem, the fact that she clearly had far more natural chemistry with Brendan cast a bit of a pall over the rest of her time on the show. I don't know what people think positive would come of a one week partner swap to be honest.

Sometimes it creates even more tension between the existing couples. Last season, this was the demise of Artem's celebrity. She was already extremely insecure but after the switch-up week, she became even more insecure throughout the competition and it hindered her ; she never fully recovered.

This season on dwts , it created even more tension in one couple given the fact that a celebrity got a perfect score with the switch up partner ( derek Hough ) and ended up not living it up to the same standard with her original partner ( mark ballas).

So in theory it can work, some celebrities learned something new from it but on the flip side it exposes weak partnerships .

An emphatic no from me - it would be a gimmick, and Strictly has too many gimmicks these days (what with the props, themes, costumes and music to fit the theme rather than the dance).

I can see more reasons against it than for, tbh.
For a start, would tptb want to appear to have got the pairings wrong, in case someone blossoms with their alternative partner ? Equally, this could reflect really badly on some pros, especially Anton, if their celeb turns out to be vastly improved with their new pro.
It's a gimmick, that's all. Dancing is about partnership and trust, why artificially sever any bonds that have formed ?
