balanced for male and female characters on screen or are they too matriarchal?
Just thinking about EE's DTC and his script day sharing his s/ls with Sharon and Kat. I remember Letitia and Jessie having an away day sometime ago.
Then storylines for Stacey, Shabnam, Linda, Ronnie, Shirley and Carol.
Do the males get a look in or are they subsidiary to the plot? The only exception seems to be murder (affected the whole Beales) or they are used in affairs (Max, Paul, Ben).
Vincent seems to be an off shoot of Kim's airtime or Ronnie. Les' Christine s/l is a refreshing change. Phil's would be good if they go down a different route of psychological damage.
I think Emmerdale has an equal balance of all characters getting a fair crack of the whip i.e. Ashley and his dementia. Corrie to be fair (has its roots as matriarchal but follows the route of family-related plots related to murder or an affair). The Hope s/l seems to be affecting the whole community and is written as such due to Fiz and Tyrone's popularity with the Street.
Thoughts?
