Sandy heath reception problems.

Hello. Since last evening I have had sporadic channel loss from the Sandy Heath transmitter. For example I can be watching BBC1HD with a signal strength of 76% and a signal quality of 100% and then without warning the quality drops to 5% whlst the strength remains at 76% many channels exhibit this same problem but there are also several that do not including motors tv.

Is anyone else having the same issue, or are aware of any enginnering issue that might be causing it?

The weather man on Look East last night mentioned that the High Pressure weather conditions were ripe for co-channel interference from distant UK or continental transmitters.

Your location, and reception predictions may make this more or less probable as being the issue. (Tick the detailed view box http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/postcodechecker/ )

Yep same problem here near Wisbech - normal signal quality of 100% down to 25% and lower at times. COM7 and COM8 have gone completely at the moment.

Can also receive channel 26 (D3&4) from Crystal Palace at 100% strength and 100% quality which is very un-usual shows the effect of the weather.

Sandy Heath also showing as 'possible weak signal' this week which might be adding to problems see http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/help_and_...ineering_works

Thanks for the replies, it's a relief to know it's not an equipment issue It seemed to have settled down last night so at least got to watch my evenings programs without interuption.

Thanks again

This morning I couldn't receive anything from Hannington on Mux 1, something really powerful on UHF Ch 45 destroying it. Possibly COM 5 from Sutton Coldfield, same direction for me, and driving around this morning, my car radio locked itself to Radio 2 from Sutton C too ! (DAB was totally unusable) What fun !

What you MUST NOT do in these conditions, is run an auto scan

Location 4mls NW Kettering Northants on Leicestershire border

Normally on Sandy but lift conditions now enable a bit of DXing

Currently watching London Live news on ch 29 mux (538MHz) which is a low power community TV station.
Earlier on receiving BBC Radio Kent on freeview

Yep thanks I'll just have to watch a bit of catch up tv to see how Jekyle and Hyde continued after it all went blank.

Good. It is amazing how many think that retuning is a good idea. Wrong!!!!

If you're careful, (noting myself and Albert's comments about not running a full auto rescan) you could try a manual scan on UHF Ch 23 and 26 and putting the channels found up at 800 ish. That's Crystal Palace Mux 1 and 2.
Your Sandy aerial will be pointing towards London, and the enhanced reception blotting out Sandy, might enable temporary reception of CP instead.
