Phil isn't Kathy's step-son, he's her step-son-in-law

Dont agree with the criticism of the Les/Christine SL, I thought it was very well done, written and acted by all involved.
Agree about the Kathy and Gavin SL though The article overall is exaggerating IMO, the show has not lost its marbles, it does have its faults at the moment but is better than it was under Kirkwood or Newman. |

I don't agree, I think it is good at the moment but no where near as good as February.
![]() The one problem I have though and it's a big one, some storylines don't have conclusions and some, have conclusions way too late. |

That's similar to Scrabbler's post about the complicated family relationships.

For me the big jump the shark moment was in 2010-2011 with the babyswap. What was it for you?

I hate the expression as it just gets rolled out every time the show does a storyline people don't like. How many times can a show jump over the same shark?

No, I really loved that storyline. I was gutted when the BBC backed down after all the complaints and brought it to an early end.
I think the article only superficially addresses the problems with the show. Because Eastenders has never been completely believable, of course not. The problem is that even within the show's internal logic, it's beginning to look completely ridiculous. It doesn't even feel like the characters live there sometimes and Albert Square doesn't feel like an actual place. Instead it all resembles a fan fiction. Somewhere along the line we've forgotten that explosions and fires and murders and kidnaps are only truly engaging if we actually care about the characters involved. Otherwise it's simply one exciting episode and then months of boredom. Only familiarity, some decent character writers and a great cast are keeping it going at the moment. |
