Theme: This is ME

Surely if the theme is "this is me", should they not be allowed to pick the song themselves, rather than have it selected for them??

i agree isnt that the whole point of the theme to show who they want to be

On XFactor the songs always seem to have a very tenuous link to the week's theme...

We were just saying that - surely they should be picking their own songs?

I thought exactly the same. 'This is me' yet you must sing such a song.

Also, despite the promises of change, it's the same old dated, cringey songs that are being wheeled out. 'I'm every woman' - oh come on!

Yep, exactly. I love Whitney, but they need to ban her songs.

Perfect example being Louisa singing a song that came out approx 30 years before she was born that's she's never heard of. On 'This Is Me' week.

It should have been named 'this is what we want you to be' instead.

Louisa did it well, but the theme is ME. They should at least KNOW the song!
How on earth can the producers know the contestants better than they know themselves?

Are the judges even involved in the music choices or is it just the producers???

It's a strange set up.

Maybe its the copyright issue?

I'm clearly stupid, but I don't understand the concept of 'This Is Me' when the contestants have never even heard of the songs they are singing??

I'm kind of presuming that 'This Is Me' is just a fancy way of saying there is no real theme this week. That gives the production team as much latitude as possible to start sorting the Chosen Ones from the Cannonfodder in the minds of the public - and the side benefit that they can arrange a car-crash or two and suggest that the targets real 'Me' is obviously a blow-out. Happy days...

Not nice, but given that the abbreviated run this year means double eliminations - always tricky to control - they do need to get a head-start if they want to avoid accidently losing a potential finalist or two.

Very cynical but sadly I think you may pretty much have that SPOT ON!

just another show's epic blunders.

It was pretty much 'Songs Week', which I suppose is better than the typical themes. I see they're not even bothering to veil the fact that the contestants have little to no say in what they sing this year.

And then somehow turning it into some god-awful Whitneyesque power ballad! Ugh!

And please let's never ever hear Dance With My Father or Man in the Mirror again. Ever.

Yes she didnt even know the song she was given neither did a couple of others so "this is me" was about the judges not them.

Realistically the theme was 'this is which role we've decided you're going to play in this years soap opera and we've got you to sign in blood on a watertight contract so you have absolutely no redress if we choose to mug you off on national tv'

You would have thought so. Max Stone looked horrified when told he would be singing an iconic Adele song with the added difference of it being done reggae style. Way to throw someone under the bus and have him perform early for good measure.

or, gets the public feeling sorry for him and then simon thinks that jusifies putting him on ahead of jennifer while bupsi who shouldnt even be there gets praised to high heaven by simon about what a great person she is trying to get her some votes as well, simon has well truley buggered it up this year and i think its on purpose as he didnt want this catagory.

The themes are just a joke now. They are so vague - primarily to suit Scowell's chosen ones and to shaft the cannon fodder.

If they did go back to real themes like Rock Week or Abba Week it would expose how shite most of the chosen ones are.

"For the song theme This Is Me I thought I would choose a song that 1) I have never heard of and 2) one that was released 20 years before I was born"

That had me in hysterics. So the theme is 'This is Me', Day 1, Vocal Coach says, "so the song you'll be singing is...". WTF?
