Of all the dances I try to do (badly), cha cha wins hands down for sheer tedium. Natalie and Artem's not least because I loathe Ra-ra-Rasputin as well.

Cha cha is my least favourite, but I enjoyed Alesha and Matts.

Cha cha just because it's the least ambitious. You get the impression that, barring the odd occasion the pros just view it as a placeholder to breeze through, usually early on, so the contestants can get basic latin down. Most everyone else has covered the obvious exceptions but I will throw in for Louisa Lytton's, and then probably get thrown off the forum for saying that Lisa Riley's was at least a laugh.

For me, the three highly technical but monotonous dances. The bane of a lot of choreographers' creativity -- The Waltz, The V Waltz and The Foxtrot:

Waltz = Kara and Artem
Foxtrot = Kara and Artem
V Waltz = Natalie and Artem [Purists criticised this for not having enough close-hold position steps. Personally, I would have repeated that perfectly synchronised triple-spot-turns-into-sway-balance move. Twice!]

I am not overly fond of the waltz but liked both Jake/Janette's last year and Gleb/Anita's this year. Seeing as the former was slated for lack of rise and fall and the latter for lack of fluidity/heel leads/contempowaffle, it probably explains why I liked them, philistine wot I am. The waltz used to be week 1 fodder in the early days though, which may have put me off.

another rhumba vote, I just find it cringy whoever is doing it. My favourite was Cheri and James though, I think the music helped it.

As a dance to do, I don't particularly like the Jive- and my favourite Strictly Jive is Jill and Darren's by a long way! (Sorry Jay and Aliona fans- it just aint even close!)

As a dance to watch, I often find Foxtrots a bit forgettable. The exception to that rule was Holly and Artem's Foxtrot which was 100% SASS!!! I loved it!

My favourite Strictly Foxtrot is probably Jason & Kristina's, which is ironic given that his personality is as forgettable as the Foxtrot can be to watch.

I am a fan of Kristina and Jason, their Foxtrot was sublime.

This ... though Mark Benton's Hammertime cha cha was all kinds of awesome.

You're right! That one wins hands down

Another vote for the Cha cha, they just always seem to turn out dull and forgettable.
Except for Holly, I thought her laid back yet sexy, kinda self-absorbed (not trying to desperately project that she's having a great time) style turned her cha cha into something quite intriguing to watch.

I detest the Rumba and the only time I remember not to be totally embarrassed by it was when Vincent and Rachel did it, not to mention it was her breakthrough dance where she emoted the hell out of it.

Thats interesting. I am not a ballroom dancer but its the one I would most like to learn. It conjures up images of Russian Imperial court balls and I love the swirly nature and the nostalgic romantisicm.

Even funnier is that when I first learned Argentine Tango I also learned two associated dances; the Milonga (a jaunty more casual dance, a bit like a polka) and Vals or Argentine Waltz., which is similar in tempo to the VW.

For some years I hated them both. When at socials I would avoid dancing to them if I could. Then I danced a Vals one day and a whole world opened up. I stopped fretting about steps because he was leading well and going too quick. So instead I just follwoed him and engaged with the dynamic, kept to the basic rhythm and focussed on interpreting the melody. It was the best dance I had ever had until that point. Now Vals is my favourite

My least favourite is Charleston. I didn't understand it until a year or so ago when a poster on here Diamond Betty explained it and how it fits into the family of dances such as Lindy Hop, Swing, Jive etc.

Prior to that I found it ungainly and too musical theatre or show-biz. I can now appreciate it but I still wouldn't say I liked it.

The one I liked best was the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang number from Patrick Robinson and Anya - eas it? I thought he was woefully underated by the public and although there may have ben higher rated Charlestons - like SEB and Brendan his is the one I preferred.

Salsa.

It doesn't seem to be anything - or it could be anything. I don't think it suits competitions.

I think its better just danced for enjoyment.

Shiver when I think of the samba, hate it
Scott Mills and Michael Vaughn

The only one I didn't hate was Matt and Aliona

I am inclined to agree. Salsa isn't really suitable for SCD not least because it is a spot dance so doesn't 'eat up any floor'. We have seen maybe two recognisable salsa in SCD in all these years.

IT isn't really intended to be a perfomrance dance, it is about lead and follow improvisation. So the minute you turn it into a performace dance and choregograph a routine it changes from what it is to something it is not. The same goes for SCD on the AT and for the same reasons. To choreograph it into a routine rather misses the point of what it is fundemenatlly about.

Another vote here for rumba. Just a load of pretentious posing at the best of times and the celebs always look so awkward trying to perform it. The only one I remember liking was Natalie Gumede's.

Also a shout out to the Charleston which I love and is the only Strictly dance I've had any training in, but on SCD just seems to be about who can pull the most ridiculous faces half the time.

Its getting like that for many of the dances unfortunately.

I don't doubt it. I don't know anything about the other dances beyond what I've picked up watching this show, but a lot of the fast latin dances especially often just look like freestyle the way they do them
