I don't really get this thread. His voice always sounded 'reedy'. How is it possible to only just notice this now?

His album tracklist sounds promising maybe some edgier sounds

it's out Nov 13 I hope he'll get another performance to promote his album maybe he will since he wasn't on the guest performers show.

Exactly That is his singing style. Was no one watching last year

I love Ben's voice but the song was wrong for him just like 9 out of 10 songs picked for him to sing on the X Factor

I loved Bens first audition and think when he got the right song, his voice was great but, more often than not, they got him wrong.

Personally, I saw him as more of a bluesy end of soul singer rather than out and out rock - his first audition would show that imo. But TPTB only idea of soul is Whitney so wouldn't have had a clue what songs to give him and so went down the Rock Songs For Dummies route.

I can't remember a single thing about him last night which says that the song and his vocal must be rather forgettable which is a shame but it's the XF way. They only have about 3 routes that winners are sent down whether it suits them or not

The song doesnt sound good without Kelly Clarkson.I was surprised they didnt mention the tour because the dates are already out.He doesnt have much left with Syco but he can go on unsigned.James Arthur is not doing badly.

You are right. It just sounded very strange tbh.

It must be why they told him they wanted the song to be a duet
says it here

It definitely sounds better as a duet for sure pity Kelly got ill she probably was supposed to perform with him . it would've been good if Ben got a female vocalist to sing Kelly's part like Olly got Ella Eyre to sing Demis.

Kelly was due to be touring the UK this month so I imagine a duet on the show was planned. Unfortunately her doctor forced her to go on vocal rest hence why Ben had to perform alone. The single version sounds better than his performance last night (in my opinion).

I've just watched the show and I thought he sounded very strained and it didn't sound great. I don't know why but he doesn't sound like he did last year!

Not against him but they're giving him a bad start. Simon's got no interest in Ben, he's doing the minimum he has to do for him as a winner. X Factor performance and album. That's it. With Fluer already I'm hearing her song played all over X Factor VTs and in the asda Christmas advert, it's this kind of thing that makes all the difference, PR is the most important thing and Simon can pull those strings when he wants to and he does. You don't hear Ben's songs played in the contestants VTs and on adverts and you have to wonder why? I actually have the X Factor Tour programe, on the front it has all the contestants pictures in the order they finished except Ben and Fleur who are switched around so Ben is second and Fleur is first.

I thought there were at least three better contestants that Ben last year but that's for another thread.

Ben sounded rubbish. I've always preferred Lauren platt to him but even I didn't think he would go that bad

Ben's single was released on the 16th October. It charted at No. 21 and is down 5 places at No. 26 in week 2. I thought he looked tired on Saturday and his performance was meh, totally forgettable.

If you're to believe some of the posts here, then his poor performance on Sabotage was down to sabotage, which is what I'm having trouble understanding. As for the start he's been given, getting a duet with such a well known and established singer can't be ignored, and will no doubt provide a boost to his sales than if it had been a solo effort. I have heard his song being played, and he did get the chance to perform it on the programme. It's a shame that Clarkson couldn't perform with him on Saturday but that's down to illness, not the X Factor's sabotage or anything of that sort. His record label may not believe he's going to take the charts by storm and, honestly, neither do I, but they clearly still want him to do well since it means more £££ for them.

I'm sorry but how is getting a duet with one of Americas biggest artists ie Kelly clarkson sabotage! I don't see Fleur duetting with Chris brown or Justin beiber or usher - yet, she's going out on her own!

Ben has also signed a deal in America - fleur hasn't! They both have original material on albums! Both spent same amount of time making the album! Both will perform on XF!

This whole Simon prefers Fleur has gotta stop because I really don't think that's the case! Fleur song plays on adverts because it's a fun catchy song - I don't feel bens single is advert material.

I'd never heard the song before Saturday, tbh I thought it was a cover of a one republic song. Then I was at the Christmas lights switch on last night, and he performed it again. He sounded terrible, ald looked really awkward throughout the whole performance. Possibly because the crowd didn't respond at all. Fleur was better, though there is something about her I really don't like. She seems very smug I think. But no doubt that she sang well.

BiB - I don't necessarily disagree that Fleur's track is better suited to an advert, especially an upbeat Asda one, but I think you're being (perhaps intentionally naive) to suggest that's pure happenstance. Licensing songs for adverts etc is an integral part of marketing campaigns nowadays and has been since the practice was credited for the success of Moby's Play 15 years ago. There are people whose job it is to get music into adverts and strike favourable deals to do so, especially that of acts they're trying to break - it's the contemporary equivalent of radio pluggers.

Add that to the fact that we've heard Sax used very prominently in (at least) the last three weeks of XF and it's clear there's a concerted and targeted effort towards marketing Fleur's track that seems to be conspicuously absent in Ben's case.

Ask yourself why Fleur's release was delayed? It's because they'd lined up the Asda deal, an advert that was going to be featured heavily in XF ad breaks and they have an opportunity to work a little earworm into the audiences consciousness insidiously. By the time it hits radio people are already familiar with that horn riff without necessarily even being aware of it. That's clever marketing - getting Kelly Clarkson to feature is lazy in comparison.

This is so on the ball! I knew I was hearing Fleurs single on Xfactor and I said to my other half. There is simon's push for fleur right there and the ad. where as ben has had very little promo

Simon has to give the winner the prize but he often has his favourite as secondary winner. Fleur is his golden child

He has officially been snubbed by radio 1.
Will Fleur get the same treatment ?

They played fleur version of uptown funk last year and obviously Nick works for radio 1 and is a judge I expect Simon will make him play fleurs song! I don't doubt fleur is favourited of course she is. But Ben has had a good shot to, Simon knows male winners don't do well really because voting demographic is mainly females and we're all fickle - each season of Xf there is a new male to swoon over! I guess Simon just sees more potential in fleur - Ben may crack America before Fleur though. Who knows she may only do well here! Time will tell I always thought Ben was more suited to America.

I wasn't being naieve I was merely saying fleur song is better suited to a advert like that, I'm not stupid I know it's clever pr and I know it was done on purpose, to market the song to get that hook familiarised to the audience - it was like uptown funk - it had promo before it was relased got number 1 twice - Simon wants her to do well (as do I)so he's pulling out all the stops! However he's still done a lot for Ben to and I expect the Kelly clarkson thing is to push Ben into America because he would be better off there! I doubt he will drop Ben, he will get a third single and gain momentum that way.

fleurr's album style is different she's a bit more current and she's more modernised as is her music! Bens voice doesn't really have that softness to cross over to pop he's a rock star at end of day. I'm not being funny but he won the show his Xmas single was played to death and he has had tons of promo - he chose a crap time to release, if he had waited I expect it would've went further up the chart. Kelly being American is his push into his career in America Fleur hasn't had that Simon wants her to crack uk first I guess. Simon is clever he obviously wants to launch Ben overseas and see how fleur does here. He likes both artists, he just knows male winners have a shelf life.

just coz fleur song is being played on adverts it doesn't mean she will chart well - promo or not you can't force people to buy music., if someone doesn't like a song no amount of AirPlay is going to change that someone's views. Just to add to much over play can go against the artist so it may not even work which would be a shame because it's a very good tune.

That is interesting considering I have just heard the song on Radio 1 In the last few minutes.........or do they have a habit of playing songs they are allegedly snubbing?

I am not an apologist or Ben fan either, just stating a fact.

Hi. I was referring to the playlist, the song has been out for a few weeks now and the playlist has recently been updated, with no Ben.
Radio 1 do occasionally play new songs which are not on the playlist.
