This guy seemed to fly under the radar when he was alive

Came across 'Pink Moon', really enjoying this stuff

You'll hardly ever watch a documentary on the BBC without hearing one of his songs played in the background. Cello Song is one of my favourites, although it's almost impossible to pick one out. It's also worth listening to the John Peel Show session version on YouTube.

Been a fan of his since the mid 80's (student days)
Pink Moon is my favourite album, simple but honest. The piano solo in the song 'Pink Moon' is probably my favourite section of music ever, it's just gorgeous.

His guitar playing and picking styles are phenomenal. Very hard to learn and I've probably spent too many hours overs the years trying just that.

He has gained 'cult' status over the years and in this case it is fully deserved. Almost the Van Gogh of music in that regard. I do find it fascinating that there is no footage of him at all (apart from when he was a baby) and that only adds to the whole mythos around him.

3 albums that I have played to death but never tire of.

Yes, when my hubby and I were students in the early 70s we loved Nick's music. We bought 'Bryter Later' and played it loads. We have never forgotten him , we still play his music from time to time and we bought his biography a couple of years ago. We were very aware that Gabrielle Drake, who was a famous actress back then, was his sister and it seemed odd to us for some reason that they were related.

We didn't realise when we originally listened to his music that he suffered so badly from depression. Back then we just loved the resonant melancholic tones of his songs. Now I personally can't listen to him without feeling sad but I still love his music and I'm really pleased that others are now getting pleasure from it too.

Bradd Pitt is a huge fan of his and presented a Radio Two show about him several years ago, although it wasn't well received (see the comments about Nora Jones). www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLiBzmoLcvo

I know a lady who's a big Nick Drake fan. Two of her favourite tracks are Saturday Sun and Man in a shed.

The first track of his I ever heard was Time Has Told Me, taken from his first album, which was on an Island label compilation album called Nice Enough To Eat. I didn't know what to make of its slight country leanings due to the slide guitar, but I found his voice absolutely haunting and mesmerising.

My favorite singer of all time, been hooked on him since I heard Northern Sky by chance on a vinyl compilation of various artists over 20 years ago. Had never heard of him, but my ears pricked up at that one song and I've been a fan ever since.

The 3 studio albums are pure gold. I've got every unreleased song and bootleg too. Had 2 of his songs played at my wedding. There are persistent rumours that there "is" live footage of him somewhere which has survived. Would love it to be true.

Northern Sky on that album "El Pea" was my first introduction to his music as well

This song has such a fragile beauty. Some people prefer the demo version with just acoustic guitar; I can't make my mind up.
