EE - In retrospect, who should have killed Archie?
Almost 6 years later and with the development of certain characters since then - who should have killed Archie?

Peggy or Ronnie. Why not just have Peggy do it and leave as you said.

Peggy.
Janine may have worked but Peggy was the best option IMO. |

Danieeeeeeeeeeelle!
(only joking) At one time, any poll like this would have been leapt upon by the "Bring back Danielle" crowd. That vocal minority's six-month reign of hardcore trolling was hilarious and disturbing. I wonder what happened to those guys? Have they all been sectioned? |

I thought it was Jack and it should have been.
The entire character of Jack was a missed opportunity. He had a dark past that was never properly explored. Instead he was a piece of totty with super sperm. He was wasted as a love interest for Ronnie. The fact that he ended up impregnating Sam was the final nail in the coffin (as if Roxy wasn't bad enough). Then, the whole Tanya era in 2008 and the best forgotten Sharon liaison near the end of his tenure. He received one of the worst exits in the show's history. Absolutely ridiculous. Jack was at his best with Max and Carol. Imagine if he had been responsible for his nephew's death and having to live with that guilt on top of killing his lover's father who was also grandfather to his daughter. The story would have took a completely different route and Scott showed during the baby swap that he can act. His shooting could have been linked to his past (Billie instead of him) and you'd have the angle of Archie's murder too. Taking Jack down a dark path would have been the best aftermath to the Archie reveal IMO. |

Definitely Ronnie. It would have been a far better direction for her than the baby swap.

Personally, I think Ronnie given the route they took her. Also, I think her because anybody else would have outright murder where you are unsympathetic to their actions (which is partly why I can't "forgive" Stacey. At the very least, they should have had her kill in a manic episode or something). With Ronnie, given everything he put her through, I think the audience would have sympathised with her, but I think ultimately the reason they didn't go with this was 1) Roxy would never have been able to forgive her 2) At the time, Ronnie was misunderstood and was never a true villain
I do think Jack wouldn't have been a bad route. I would have bought him doing it for Ronnie, he was a dodgy ex copper and it would, as others said, given his character something interesting to do. |

Ronnie! As you said OP with Peggy leaving anyway it would have made sense but with how Ronnie has turned out I think she would have been the best choice.

It should have been Peggy. Babs was leaving the show anyway.
Apparently the decision to make Stacey the killer instead of the original choice (Peggy) was prompted by Babs' decision to leave. Which makes no sense to me. Turning Stacey into a murderer was a huge mistake and made her exit from the show inevitable. Letting Stacey leave without facing punishment was an even worse decision, leading to that awfully far fetched return story in 2014.

I don't think Archie should have been killed at that point at all. The character had a lot more mileage in him and he was one of the best characters at the time. If he had to be killed then I think it should have been a Mitchell that did it.

Definitely Ronnie. It was completely pointless of Stacey to do it, considering it has been erased from her memory now anyway.

Ronnie since she become a killer anyway and her killing Archie would have been justified (not that Stacey's wasn't justified - just she's a 'normal' character whereas Ronnie is now a classy criminal businesswoman whatever)

Ronnie definitely would've been more justified.
I think I would've liked the killer to have been Roxy. It still annoys me that she doesn't really believe that Archie abused Ronnie. I think that she's always been extremely selfish regarding their relationship. If she had found out about the abuse, confronted Archie about it and killed him, her relationship with Ronnie would seem less one-sided. |
