I don't understand why they keep up the pretence. It was shown up for the charade it is when Robbie Savage was a contestant.

Seriously why do you even care? It's not a 'charade'. It wasn't 'shown up'. They're not trying to fool you. They don't claim it's live. They film a show on Saturday night bearing in mind it will go out on Sunday and therefore refer to 'last night', it's as simple as that.

The do keep up a pretence as Bruno referred to "last night" instead of tonight.

Logistically, it makes sense to record it all in the one night. I have no problem with them pretending it's two different nights. Not every tv viewer logs in to this forum and are happily ignorant of the facts.

It is strange. I'm sure they could choose their words more carefully so that it appears correct to both the people in the know and those who don't.

That's not pretence... they know it will be shown on the Sunday when they film it, so they refer to it as "last/Saturday night". They're not lying or pretending that it is live at all.

Can I just ask, why are they on two separate nights and why do they pretend that it's Sunday like they're trying to keep it hidden?

I can understand the last one sort of because they are correct in that the the show was the night previous but why is it just never mentioned?

The show's on two separate nights because when it was on the same night as the performance show it had a major negative impact on the ratings, and lots of people complained that it dragged the show out too late for a family audience.

I might be totally wrong here, but years ago didn't they have the results on Saturday after Doctor Who? And if I am wrong they could start doing that surely? Rather than having a 45 minute show make it half hour and it wouldn't take up to much more of their Saturday night TV.

Ahhh thanks for that! I used to sort of watch the X Factor years ago and from what I remember I thought they did their results after another show had been on (does that make any sense?) so I was wondering why Strictly didn't do that but if that's the reason then fair enough! I read the spoilers so it doesn't matter to me anyhow but after a few years of watching the question just came to mind!

As Monkseal said, that would be too late for a family show and it would negatively impact ratings.

In tonight's show Gleb was in the room with Claudia and the others who had just been saved. Claudia leads straight into the next link (James Morrison) and who's stood there? Gleb in a completely different outfit.

I was thinking that too!

I just don't get why Tess, Claudia and the judges change outfits, what a waste of time and expensive clothes?

That always happens. As far as I gather, the singer is usually filmed either before the show actually starts or between the show and the filming of the results show. I don't know if you have noticed but the audience is often looking up at the monitors, not at the stage.

By the way, I have a feeling that the OP does know the set up, it is just a bit of larking about!

You may have noticed that in the pro chess dance, that came half-way through the results show, most of the pros did not have their Halloween make-up on. This was particularly noticeable with Pasha.

So that routine must have been filmed quite a while before the start of the main show - to allow sufficient time for most of the pros to be made-up. I don't know how long that process would take.

Having never been to a live show I'd like to know the recording sequence.

I assume there is a short break after the main show ends but my questions, if anyone knows, are .

How long is the break?

When they announce who is through is it all done in one take or is there a break between the announcement of the first dance off couple as it is shown?

When does the guest perform? During James Morrison's dance Gleb was dancing. He seemed to get out of his make up and outfit in minutes.

Thanks

As I said before, the singer's sequence is filmed either earlier or between shows. I imagine they chose Gleb as his make-up wasn't so extreme.

My understanding is that the results show is recorded "as live" but any pro dances or musical guests have usually been recorded in advance (sometimes weeks beforehand).

Thank you, I guess from your reply that you've never been either.

Another thing is how long before the start of the live show is the group/pro dance on Saturday recorded? Was it done in one take as 'live'?
