This is why Smart TVs are a total joke. They end up becoming obsolete long before they give up the ghost and need replacing.

People need to just get a Fire stick, Chromecast, Apple TV or whatever (heck, even a combination of boxes/sticks) and change them as and when.

Or a those on a "broadcaster" platform ( international standard) like freetime freeview play
Or major group like sky..

The number Iplayer versions is down from the 1200 that it was two years ago..
Again the standardisation in html5 and MPEG dash is helping.

Another one bites the dust! Every time I turn on my old Samsung "smart" TV, another service gets removed. Soon all those smart features I paid for will be gone and it will just be left as a standard TV.

I find that BBC IPLAYER doesn't work on my Samsung TV. I can find and select the programme I want but it will not play.

I have give up trying to watch BBC iplayer on mine. The show will always freeze after a few minutes forcing me to restart it.

Bizarrely I can still watch iPlayer & Demand 5 (both SD only) on my 2010 Sony Bravia, although the BBC has given advance notice that iPlayer support will be withdrawn later this year.

I already have two other ways of accessing iPlayer in HD however on the same TV, via a Youview box and a Chromecast stick.

Would tend to agree - don't buy a TV based on its smart capabilities, because whatever they are they will be outdated and probably unsupported within 5 years long before the TV has reached the end of its life.

Doesn't bode well for the much-vaunted "Internet of Things", wait 'til they tell people they'll have to replace their central heating or alarm system after 5 years because the software has been "improved" and no longer works with old kit

The simplest and cheapest method is to buy the new black Now TV Box-about £15!
It gives rapid and flawless access to most of the apps found on so called 'Smart' tv's!
As many other posters have stated these so called smart tv's are a joke and hopefully with the rapid advance of modern, cheap streaming devices the manufacturers will go back and concentrate on the tv and not the very poor -soon to disappear-apps!

It's a joke, parents bought a new SmartTV last year and i helped set things up. Since then, we've noticed some apps have stopped (Demand 5 is one of them). I had to go out and get a NowTV box, had to go through one of them idiotic Curry's employees whom said "Why do you need this, the SmartTV apps work fine". If they did, i wouldn't need this box, was my reply.

Luckly, i bought a new TV at the same time they did. Mine wasn't a Smart one, guess that was a "smart" move hehe.

I have a 2012 Samsung smart tv and everything works fine. They have pulled the plug on some services such as kids section but all catch up to works fine. The best choice would be getting an Android TVs box. On that you can have Kodi + all the catch up to apps and it it works like a dream, especially if your box has OTA capabilities.
