How about the no theme theme every week. ..I'm sick of those themes ...

because as I am sick of saying scrapping themes is irrelevant if they still end up giving acts songs like "i'm every woman" and "someone like you"

everyone moans about the themes stopping acts singing "current" music when I think we know that's wrong as even given a generic theme at the weekend we still had 6 songs that were 30+ years old

themes aren't the problem, song choices are the problem regardless of the theme

whats wrong with them keeping themes like the one at the weekend that give a fairly free choice of songs but still provide a general structure to the show as themes provide a talking point for us to guess songs and to moan about

Burt Bacharach - and you may think that's sad but I'm not even joking.

Lovely, well crafted pop songs that the contestants can put their own spin on.

Themes are absolutely PART OF the problem when you do the same damn themes over and over, you are going to get the same songs over and over...you can widen the range of the songs all you want...but if you put in a theme...you are forcing some people to be something they are not ...how many times have we heard during rock week or disco week complain..." THEY DIDN'T DO ROCK" or " THEY DID A SLOW SONG AGAIN"...well, they aren't rock singers.. a very hard concept for some to grasp...get rid of themes are you can partially get rid of those criticism....

try to read what I said ...

I said you can have themes but still allow a fairly free choice of song as long as you pick the right theme but even when you have a theme like the weekend that allows a free choice and we still get songs like "i'm every woman" then how is that the fault of the theme ?

You completely neglected the second part of my argument. ..we might have had I'm Every Woman and a few others...but most weren't songs that were done to death...if they choose I'm Every Woman, that's on them...and how do you account for themes like rock or disco where people continuously complain that so and so "didn't follow the theme"...

firstly, can you show me where I have said we should have themes like "rock week" or "disco week" as the fact that I haven't said that kinda makes your objection to what I have said rather pointless

secondly, have you any idea how wide a genre rock really is, the problem the show has when it picks a theme like rock week is the producers have such a narrow view of what that means that we end up with a mix of bon jovi and aerosmith songs rather than the countless options and sub-genres within rock that are possible

lastly, you are still failing to show that without themes we will get any better song choices given you actually agree that "its on them" when they still make tired and predictable song choices even when they are not restricted by a prescriptive theme

why would they want to have musical theatre as a theme when its actually seen as a bad thing if someone is too theatrical and its usually used as a negative in critiques ?

When it gets to a smaller amount of people left they should have an originals week where they all have different producers and do their own song

i'll admit that no themes doesn't necessarily mean that we can erase all the overdone song choices, but at least they have that option...i mean isn't the point to show who they truly are as artists instead of trying to slot them into categories that are not who they are...i mean it's true that rock is a very wide genre of music, but the problem here is that the audience DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THAT!!!, so you will always get people that complain that they didn't follow the theme...if you get rid of the themes, at least the contestants have leverage to show the real them EVERY SINGLE WEEK!!!...it's better than having these casuals that don't know anything about music complain that they didn't do the theme...and i don't think themes like disco gives everyone the chance to show the audience their true selves...dare to slow down the song and be a little original or rearranging the song...prepared to be slaughtered by the audience...

Hidden Gems Week - They have to cover songs that didn't make the top 20 or by lesser known artists

Complete opposites

Female acts have to sing songs originally sung by male artists.
Male acts have to sing songs originally sung by female artists.

- see how versatile the contestants are?

I'd like a Kate Bush, Depeche Mode, New Order or Madonna week, plenty of songs to choose from.

Or songs in a foreign language week. I listen to French and Spanish music so I'd love that.

I don't want themes. I like to hear the contestants sing what they are comfortable singing. When they do the sing off they are usually better because they are singing their own choice of song.

John Lewis week - the acts sing the songs from past John Lewis Xmas ads. I would kill to see Reggie 'n Bollie dressed as the bear and the hare..
