The reverse is true - non-white celebs (27.86) have a higher average score overall than white celebs (25.60).

Not really - the % of bottom 2 contestants that are white should be higher than the % of bottom 2 contestants that are non-white. The % of non-white and the % of white contestants who hit bottom 2 should be the same. ("Should be" being a value judgment in all cases, obviously)

With the greatest respect, you are missing the point here.
I hope, that in this day and age, not many people would sit down in front of SCD and say "I won't be voting for so-and-so because of their colour", but unfortunately there is still a lot of unconscious racism, where your average white viewer may be less likely to vote for a black dancer than a white or mixed race one.
It's very hard to prove this one way or the other, but the fact that there hasn't been a single black winner makes me feel that it is probably true.
And there have been plenty of likeable black celebrities over the years; John Barnes, Alison Hammond, Heather Small, Denise Lewis etc etc.

I wouldn't say any of those had the type of personalities that are hugely likeable in reality TV terms. John was dull, Heather was quite closed off and crippled by nerves, Denise had the 'competitive sportswoman' tag and Alison was total marmite (even though I liked her I could see why some people would find her unbearable). I don't think there has ever been a black equivalent to a Jeremy/Judy/Dave Myers type character with which to compare audience reactions.

Of those, Denise Lewis is the only one who was a particularly good dancer though....which may be the reason why she was the runner up whereas all the others you refer to were also rans

But yes, I do see what you are saying about the issue itself. I'm willing to accept I may have deep seated prejudices I am not aware of
