I would've thought a 3 year musical theatre degree would cover more than just ballet. Even if it didn't, why is Helen's ballet any different to whatever sort of dancing Jay did? Neither were ballroom and latin.

She really didn't - she's a graduate of the Royal Academy Of Music specialising in musical theatre.

Would that be the same musical theatre that Jay did, only with a much more prestigious acadamey? ( I so wish we had a tongue-in-cheek smiley - doesn't seem qute right in this context)

Exactly Jay said he did tap and ballet at college and not ballroom. Kellie and Georgia have had dance training also

That just about puts it into context, though some people will never quite see the irony of their argument against Jay which makes it all a bit baffling really The fact is you either have natural ability or you don't and Jay has it in spades. Yes he needs to express characterisation a little more which I think will come with time and experience. Some others need to express themselves a little less imo as one can over-egg the pudding, sometimes less is more.

I just don't see this dullness that others see in Jay, I think he is quite a character though not in your face like some, still it is all subjective and personally I see nothing in Helen and find her quite dull tbh though she is nice enough.

Peter bores me and I have always quite liked him previously, I guess I have only ever seen him in very small doses which seems to have been quite a blessing, a perfectly nice guy but not my cuppa tea, and his dancing is totally overated as I find him to be very uninspiring on the dance floor.

I have two left feet and judge purely on how something makes me feel. Just as some books or songs are technically well crafted but leave me cold so many of the others don't touch me in the same way
Wherever he gets in this competition he will have honed skills he may use in the future

They don't want to see the irony and they don't care if what they say makes them hypocrites. They judge Jay by a different set of rules to the other contestants .. because he is so popular. He's the great big threat to their particular favourite. So much rubbish wouldn't be written otherwise.

Jay is only dull to those people that like over excessive gurning, hamming it up, faux sincerity, camera hogging and cheese fests! IMO!

Very well said.

Now back to

which isn't dull at all.

Why can't people just say they like someone without dissing the other celebs? How does disliking Peter justify liking Jay or vice versa? Same with Kellie and Helen?

Am I the only person who quite enjoys watching ALL four of these?

I certainly wouldn't want a show full of Jay type or Peter type personalities I like variety, and it is quite possible to enjoy different types of performances for different reasons. Sure, you may have a preference, but it doesn't wipe out what the other celebs have to offer.

I certainly wouldn't want to spend each show waiting for the 5 mins from my 'favourite' celeb. That doesn't give much return in terms of viewer enjoyment.

I don't miss it at all. It was just a sad way of saying "I've abandoned all rational argument and will pretend to patronise you instead."

You have a point

I'm surprised when I read someone who finds my favourite 'boring' while at the same time favours someone (who I think is as dull as dishwasher!) in comparison to the person they're dissing. Sometimes I comment on it. I admit I haven't warmed much to Helen at all, and although I like Jay don't feel as excited about him as the majority seem to. But I like them all well enough as people, and look forward to seeing them dance. I like Kates elegance, Jay and Alionas partnership, Anita and Kellies hard work and enthusiasm, Jeremys positivity, and Helen dances really well. I look forward to see them all on the show. And none of them are my favourites.

As long as people remember there is no 'right' answer, its all very subjective - and a good thing it is, otherwise we'd all be fawning over the same person. There's nothing wrong with debate and disagreement....as long as the person remembers its only an opinion and not the truth

What an intelligent post . Nail on head .
It would be akin to being sheep if we all liked the same one person , and must be very soul destroying for the others who are trying their best when they get shunted aside on forums while a horde endlessly praise the cute guy who got his hair cut for Strictly and generates mothering tendencies and rip everyone else to shreds .
Yes , I concede I shouldn't keep bringing up his dance experience and I'll try not to in future . But I will criticise or poke fun when I want to because everyone else gets criticised and poked fun at and he should not be out of bounds just because he is the forum favourite .

Yes I agree on the rolling eyes smiley and your interpretation of it . The yawning one also was only used to patronise and belittle . Both those smileys were passive aggressive and I'm glad they are gone .

He didn't 'get his hair cut for Strictly'. He had be growing it for sometime then chopped it off to donate to the Little Princess Trust. They use the real hair to make wigs for children who have cancer and other conditions which cause them to lose their hair. Pretty lovely gesture!

I think that's nice. In respect of Strictly, his short hair is a bit messy for ballroom and latin, where the convention is usually to be a bit sleeker. Not that it matters that much since Strictly doesn't have to follow those conventions.

did he actually grow it for the princesses, or did he just decide to donate it to them when aliona convinced him that the IVth form chemistry student look was not a good one...

Difficult to have sleek hair when you have a head of curls - but the jive "do" was a part wig I gather.

You'd probably have to ask him personally for a definitive answer, but my understanding is he intentionally grew it for that reason. As I said, a lovely gesture. It's nice when 'celebs' decide they're going to do something for charity and then actually follow through and do it. Not all of them do

I'd say the latter.

But nice that it went to a good home anyway.
