Could somebody kindly tell me how to go back to the old style forum please? I can't take much more of this.

ETA: I've just scrolled all the way down the page for the first time tonight and noticed that mahoosive black footer!”

Doesn't work for me in Firefox either netwen.

(Trying) to use DS has become a journey into the 7th circle of hell.
Had to give up using it on any Android devices over the last year, now it's torture on practically all devices and browsers I use.

If this was a retail site they'd be out of business by the weekend

With adblock select element to hide I had to do it twice because the black bar popped up briefly when I went to another page but fingers crossed it now seems to be gone.

I suggested that filter for someone using Chrome and Adblockplus, but it also works fine for Adblockplus on Firefox, too. Left-click on your Adblockplus icon, select Filter Preferences, then you'll see Custom Filters, where you can add the code I supplied. Make sure it's entered how it's shown:

Code:

I've done exactly that. Several times!! Do you have to click the Back Up and Restore button?

Well, let's try another way. Left-click on your Adblockplus icon, and select Select Element to Hide. Just click on anywhere on the page, and a box will appear. In the Filter Rule box at the top of the box that popped up, replace whatever that's in there with the code I supplied. If you have Preview selected, you should see the change immediately. If it works, then select Add Filter Rule. If not or you think you've messed up, select Cancel.

If you have Stylish in Firefox, and know how to create a new style, you could try the text in this one to see if it improves matters for you. You will need to store it with a name of your own choice.

Much of it is based upon others in the Stylish site, though I forget which (some users may recognise some details), but I don't know how to get this version onto it.

Some of the comments may not make sense, but I don't fully understand all of the coding.

If anyone has ublock origin just right click and "block element" then select the "horror bar" and then in the box on the bottom right click "create" and that blocks it. I had to do it twice as there's a menu and then some kind of under layer.

Now there's no wasted space at the top and the bar has totally gone.

I don't get a Select Element to Hide though. Only Filter Preferences or Open Blockable Items, both of which I've played with endlessly to no avail....

So funny that as the Digital Spy developers are working to put these 'bars' and things in, make the fonts SMALLER and waste more space on the page at the sides, the users are downloading more plugins and ad blockers to try and hide and regress what the developers are doing and enable the site to work more smoothly without annoyance.

Is Stylish the old forum layout style? If so, could you provide the link please.

Ohhh! I was wondering what that dotted line down the side was and just ignored it.

I've got rid of the 'horror bar' (very apt name, ThineWonk) now. Thank you ever so much, Avidian!

I'd still like to try the old style layout though.

ETA: And I've got smooth scrolling back. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

But, for my sins, I'm getting the horrid 'black flash' every time now. You trying to tell me something, DS?

That's what I, and a number of others (judging by the comments) have found. What on earth is going on?

It was no problem on my 2013 Nexus 7 until today. Now just the ad at the top of the page and an otherwise blank white screen. Hopeless.

Thank you so so much for this - the black bar's gone now. When I selected a specific post, the top line of text in the post was hidden by the bar. Quite annoying to have to scroll to see the post I specified, especially because I specified it.

But! It's gone! Yay! I think most of us spend a lot of time hiding the changes the DS software people make. I expect it makes some of their changes pretty redundant, which, if they'd had a bit of foresight, they could have avoided. All they had to do is ask one question:

Q: Dear FMs, which of the following elements of a web page would you block, if you could?

... and based on the answers, they can strike out certain parts of their plan and implement the less intrusive stuff a lot quicker.

Alternatively, they could ask, go ahead anyway, and sit back and giggle at us raging at them impotently.
