So this week Simon said...

there's no point in having a sing off if we don't pick the best performance, next week when he is deciding on the winner of the sing off, he will say, I have to think about who will have a longer career or who will sell most records, the week after, I have to think about who has done better in the competition and so it goes on! Happens every year depending on who is in the Sing off. So annoying. Kiera will not sell records after, Alien may have had an opportunity to as they are a current girl group where there is a gap in the market, Kiera would sing Whitney every week if she could, average voice, not very warm personality, playing on her sad sob story a bit too much. What was the point of saving her.

On another point of things I find annoying on X Factor - do you think a presenter that asks a question of a previous X Factor singer will ever ask a different first question to: What's it like to be back on this stage? And for them to respond - it feels like home.

When did she play on her 'sob story'?

not last night, but every other show she has featured in. It is awful to lose a mother, but there was no need to tell us that really, its a singing competition.

Neither of the people in the sing off I actually like, though Keira definitely definitely outsang the group. It was a good song for her, much better than the rubbish she sang on Sat night.

And as for the alien group, I doubt there is and ever will be "a gap in the market for them"....

I know posters are saying how current they are, but I fail to see what is current about them.....I didn't know rapping was modern again?

of course we know simon's different strategies, for example he didn't pick the best performance in the Lucie / jedward sing off,he took bupsi to the shows instead of jennifer..
he doesn't want to sign alien that's why he voted them out

If you're bottom 2/3 in week one. There is never going to be a gap in the market for you ... period.

They were probably hard work for the production team to make them see passable and I'm sure the wardrobe person must've been having a nervous breakdown trying to find suitably weird outfits. It is easier to style someone who doesn't have a strong image, same with Seann. So altogether too much trouble- and it's not as though they can wave a magic wand and make them likeable and attractive

I know what you are saying but I think they went in too aggressive for a first song, if they softened a bit next week, they could have done well. Tulisa went the soft approach for Little Mix during the show, dressed them in top shop type outfits to dress like the average teenager, not intimidating, nice girls singing good pop songs and that got them through. As soon as they won, there image changed. Their last album video's was them dressed in sexy leather costumes, much less pop and that album did well in the american market and is a great album. This new album, they seemed to have changed their image again and gone more pop and dressing in prom dresses. I think Alien were too aggressive which would alienate the young girls (no pun intended!).

Possibly but would you want them to be softer? That didn't really fit in with the image that they had created for themselves. It's likely they would have been accused of faking it for votes.

I have to say that I actually enjoyed their performance on Sat night but their sing off was dreadful, did they even rehearse that song?

He should have kept Alien. No way on earth will Keira win and her voice is just nowhere near strong enough. She's a very average singer and she constantly looks like she's about to burst into tears whenever she's on stage. Everytime I see her I always want to just shake her and tell her to wake up. Alien would never have won either, but they had a lot more potential than Kiera had.

I disliked them the minute they came on the stage and did the all too famiiar routine of grabbing their crotch.

It's bad enough when young blokes do that to show how "street" they are, but when young girls do it, it's a bit unpleasant.....!

I agree and they would have been more interesting to watch than her. She is by far the weakest of the 4 girls and just isn't likeable. I disliked when she tried to throw the other under the bus during 6 chair. of course, you have to fight for your place, but she did it in a dislikeable way imo. She should never have been picked and nor should Bupsy, just wasted places. Would much rather of seen Jennifer who was a much better singer with a bit of attitude. Simon really is out of touch.

It is exactly what Mason did this week. Doesn't seem a Justin Bieber type of guy to me, but did what he had to do to make the audience vote for him. It is a competition after all?

I've heard her speak about her mother once, that was at boot camp. Very sad, same as Monica speaking about losing her brother.

I think the same can be said of them all. We get to know their background as the show progresses.

She talked about it a few times when she was featured. Monica only mentioned it at JH because they asked her about her song and who was it about. A lot of them do talk about that stuff but they shouldn't really, it is kind of irrelevant to the competition and puts people off I think. A lot of people have had tragedy in their life unfortunately, we don't all have to hear about it. This show is the worst for dragging it out of people and as we have read it today, some make it up (allegedly) to appear more interesting.
