Tee hee!

I'm sure you are right BTW, and I'm not giggling at you, but JG is the person that many blame for SCD's current ills

I loved the dance. And I normally find them cheesily forgettable and/or an incoherent jumble.

And I spotted it was Ola straight away, but I also prefer to see their faces more easily.

I liked it. Glad I wasn't the only one. I was impressed - for a brief moment - that they'd got Tony award winning Bernadette Peters - to star in this dance. Then I realized it was Ola, possibly made up to look like Bernadette. (just kidding)

Pretty sure the moves Pasha and Ola were doing at the start were ballet inspired moves (not Argentine Tango to my eyes) and the last part of their section were Paso-ish moves. IMHO of course. I'm not any kind of an expert.

As for the rest of the dancers, using head gear as a guide, here is my best guess at who was what chess piece:
Kings - Aljas (white), Brendan (black)
Queens - Janette (white), Karen (black)
Bishops - Kevin (white), Tristan (black)
Knights - Aliona (white), Oti (black)
Rooks - Giovanni (white), Gleb (black)
Pawns - Kristina (white), Natalie (black)
note: I'm using process of elimination the decide on these last two.

Ah, thanks. I forgot that Jo is usually part of the group dances. Funny that I did that after so many posts confusing her and Ola. But I recognized Ola (except for seeing that distinct Bernadette Peters look about her) and I was running through the pros that had partners on this show which left her off my list. Sorry Jo.

Oh is he? I had no idea. Maybe they quoted him as he is the mian choreographer of the show then I suppose?
In his twitter he credits a certain Beth Honan for the Chess routine.
Quote:
“@DeborahMeaden @bbcstrictly hi my lovely !!! It was the work of Beth Honan - we were so thrilled with it ... Hope all is great with you xx”

Today on It Takes Two Zoe Ball announced the choreographer - apparently an Australian pro.
I want to see more of this please!”

Jason Gilkison is the "head choreographer" for the pro dances but he credits a lady called Beth Honan for sundays dance

That's right. I saw her name in the credits.

It was the tweet read out on ITT, congratulating Jason, that confused things. Of course he's got overall responsibility and gets stick when routines are not liked so I suppose it's only fair for give him kudos when they're good. But at least he gives credit where credit is due.

Pasha and Ola were completely out of sync in this bit, it looked awful!

I agree it was a great routine, but as Tim said Pasha and Ola were slightly out of sync in one section.
But overall I thought it was striking, different and much better than any other routine this series.

We're they meant to be in sync.? Their steps seemed to be different.

In the opening of the dance, within the first 10 seconds, when Pasha and Ola were side by side doing flicky feet things!

That was the part I was thinking of. To me it didn't look out of sync it looked different; either Pasha added more or Ola less. Wasn't sure that it was an accident.

It was so short that I didn't get a chance to compare, but going back to re-watch, you are quite right. The move is similar to a petit battement sur le cou-de-pied, only done higher up on the leg. (I'm glad I said "ballet inspired" because the move they did wasn't that close to the one I linked to).

Ola was both too slow for the music and not sharp enough. But I suspect most viewers didn't notice the lack of unison in the movements because they were very brief.
