STTMP is utter tripe, it was on release and still is now. By far the best entry in the series is TVH and the best part of that film is explaining the plot to someone who has never seen it, assuring them that you are not joking and that it's superb.

For the originals my pref is:

TVH
TUC
TWOK
TFF
TSFS

I won't even added the motion picture to that list.

And DS9 blows every other trek show out of the water.

Come, come, Mr. Picard. Young minds, fresh ideas. Be tolerant.

All opinions at the end of the day. anyway we've veered way off topic.

I've heard that an announcement was due today on the new show. anyone heard anything??

Has anything been confirmed yet?

Last I heard its set before the original series has a weird ship. The captain is a black female with a mostly female cast and Netflix are airing it

BIB: That was kinda my point. To call someone's post an "Epic fail" for merely offering a differing opinion is a bit harsh.

What's the harm in discussing related things while waiting for more concrete news of the new show?

Just for fits and giggles I had a look at the IMDB ratings for the originals and the motion picture comes in seconds from last for the original movies.

You may like it but it is pretty much regarded as one of the worst.

like I give a shite. that's my point- its incredibly under-rated while TUC (which bored me senseless) seems oddly over rated. IMDB has some very odd ratings from time to time.

The Enterprise Incident is my favourite episode, if only because I have fond memories of watching the 'the Vulcan death grip' scene with my father. I think TOS series 3 is underrated in general. More fun than Voyager in any case.

Despite the commonly received fan wisdom that it's the worst season of the original series (I think it is) there are still gems and worthy stories in season 3. The Tholian Web springs to mind for me. Even in the worst episodes the character moments of Kirk, Spock and McCoy are usually a treat.

I like TOS season 3, not as good as good generally as 1 & 2 but it is a lot fun. I know Spock's Brain gets the a lot of criticicism but to me it's still more watchable than Way to Eden, which imo is the worst TOS episode. Season 3 also has Turnabout Intruder, and that's pure Shatner gold.

It also has All our Yesterday's which even though it's nothing spectacular I always enjoy watching - plus it lead to two follow up books Yesterday's Son and Return to Yesterday, two of my favourite Star Trek books.

I love The Way To Eden, but that's because I have a fondness for 60s hippie-exploitation movies in general. Many's the time me and my friends would spontaneously break out into a rendition of "I'm standing here wondering - WHAT?"

(it was the 80s. There were drugs involved)

I agree with most that season 3 was the weakest but like most have said theres still a number of very good episodes from that season.
a few have been mentioned. one episode that hasn't been mentioned is the cloud minders- which I really enjoyed.

I reckon the cloud city in empire strikes back must have drawn some inspiration from stratus (just like I suspect the death star drew inspiration from the Fercarrius in the 'corbomite manover).

Andorrian antennae seems like a good shout. But it's just a tease. It really could be almost anything.

I hope not, because (whilst it's still pre production and far from a finished product) that antennae looks extremely like a TOS-style one, rather than an ENT-style one, in which case these new Andorians are going to look as cheap and as tacky as that new ship design.

Shran was one of the best things about that entire show.
