You do know the show is already in profit? Netflix paid buckets for it sight unseen.
Netflix knows it will be their biggest show probably by far on release, hence their confidence.

They'll buy anything at the moment which is why they'll probably be out of business before they ever get to show it! Bubble's gonna burst one day for online TV and possibly quite soon.
Very much doubt that, as someone has already said, online streaming is the future.

Just a shame Netflix UK is no where near as good as Netflix US.

Netflix are dumber than dog sh*t if they paid upfront for this series even before a single episode has been made ? It could easily be very dull and pedestrian just like Enterprise and Voyager.

I didn't find Enterprise dull and pedestrian.

I really liked Enterprise too. I'm also currently watching the original star trek series on Netflix as I haven't seen them before.

And this is why they paid big bucks. The data they have states people watch Star Trek lots of people on Netflix.

I have been running through Voyager again on Netflix and I am enjoying it for the most part. Voyager is still my ship of choice, handy being able to park it.

Be nice if they could rescan it like they did with TNG though I wonder if they would have to completely re-render the effects for the later seasons where they went fully CG. If they rendered at SD resolutions that is.

They could. They could even re-render the sfx. Technically it's possible. For both DS9 and Voyager the technical challenges are much greater than they were for TNG because they made much more extensive use of CGI. But the real kick in the teeth and the decider for this is the economics. Sales of TNG on Blu ray weren't good enough to take the risk on doing the same for DS9. Voyager is, presumably, in the same boat.

It's a shame. I want all Star Trek in HD. I'd been putting off a DS9 re-watch in the hope that it would get the TNG HD treatment. I've now started the re-watch on DVD and I have to say the PQ is terrible when viewed on a 55" screen. TNG, DS9 and Voyager always looked "soft" on a PAL TV, even of modest size (at the time they aired in the UK I had a 25" CRT Sony) but they do look bad now. They look soft due to standards conversion from NTSC and because they're originally at a lower resolution than PAL. They're much worse than other DVDs I have of series that were shot on film. I've reached season 3 of DS9 now and I'm glad to say there's been a noticeable improvement in PQ over the first two seasons.

I still think that someday it will happen for DS9 and Voyager. The cost of CGI gets cheaper all the time. Some day it will be cheap enough to make it economically viable to do it for these shows.

Enterprise is a tale of two halves. Seasons 1 & 2 are considered quite dull, with only a handful of decent episodes. Even as fan you have to acknowledge a shift in gear for seasons 3 & 4. That wasn't by accident, it was a reaction to widespread criticism. Maybe if it had been allowed a few more seasons and continued the way it was going it would remembered more fondly...though I seriously doubt it would ever have reached the heights of DS9.

I liked season 1 and 2 personally. Wasnt a huge fan of season 4 and the 3 episode story arcs... but by then they already knew the series was cancelled. Personally i thought DS9 was fairly terrible until about season 5ish and even then only some episodes were good.

They didn't know until towards the middle of season 4.

Before clicking the link I was expecting him to have been sacked or let go for "creative differences" so the reality wasn't quite that bad.

Well i am not being funny but surely Bryan must of realised he couldn't handle so many projects at once. He normally works on one show at a time. But to have three projects on the go, he was always going to have to step back on at least one of them. I would of assumed this would of been the one he would invest his time in the most due to his passion and love for the franchise. Oh well. His work will still be used but he just won't be all the time.

Going off the ship design and the, alleged, premise of the show, personally I wouldn't mind if they tore it all up and started again....

What projects is he working working on that are more important than the new Star Trek?

They're certainly putting a positive spin on his departure. I'm not entirely convince though. If he is such an ardent fan of Star Trek, why would he choose to dump that project rather than the others when he realised he was overloaded?

Could it be this was always the plan? Use Fuller's presence to attract the talented others the show would need and then, having got them, he moves on to other projects?

At least he'll still be exec producer and there seems to be confidence in the remaining team. There's still plenty of room for hope and high expectations though. Still looking forward to it.

Oh well - everyone knows that the first couple of seasons of a new Star Trek series are always sub-standard Usually takes till season 3 to kick into gear

Plus many shows which start of really well (e.g. Heroes) seem to burn out pretty quickly after the first season.

I have serious reservations now. Unpopular ship design, unpopular setting, still no casting and now the showrunner gives up. It doesn't bode well.

The ship design certainly seems to be unpopular, but the setting? Some here don't like it, but I wouldn't go so far as to say the setting is unpopular. Casting and showrunner as far as I can see is just Hollywood normal.

I'm no Pollyanna but I think you're being too negative.
