I am cautiously optimistic about the new film. Simon Pegg I think can write scripts, I'm still of the opinion that his "not Star Trekky" comment is taken little out of context (given I've read his original blog post where that quote comes from), and he has said that he would prefer to write his own character out of the film as much as possible, since he doesn't want to have to do too much work!
![]() (Though, I don't really see what's wrong with Pegg's Scotty. Scotty was always a bit of a joker when the need arose (or are you forgetting the episode where he drank an alien under the table?), and while he's not a patch on James Doohan, neither is anybody when compared to the original actors and characters). Back on topic. I hope it's not picked up by Sky, or if it is, it's not shown first on Sky Atlantic. |

Not sure why you replied to me, I never mentioned or alluded to Into Darkness...

WELL I see this has died a death. i'm buzzing for this.
haven't heard one peep online in the past couple of weeks. even the wiki an memory alpha pages has dried up (and they often put up stuff when a trek alumni actor so much as tweets about this). |

Simon Pegg definitely understood what people loved about both Star Trek and Star Wars, that's obvious when you watch any episode of Spaced. But that was before he entered "the system" himself. People seem to change when they enter the Hollywood machine. Does he still get what made Trek great? We'll find out next year but I'm not holding my breath. Still, he doesn't have a high bar to beat given how horrible Into Darkness was. |

I thought that Into Darkness was a complete car-crash; up there with the recent Fast and Furious type films for absolute nonsensical garbage. I fully agree with the recent convention that voted it the worst Trek film of all time.
![]() Into Darkness was dodgily scripted but still had some decent sequences in it, not least the opening, and anything with Peter Weller in it. The first 45 minutes aren't that bad really... Benedict's character (let's not call him Khan, ever, if we can avoid it...xD) is genuinely interesting at first, though he does boil down to someone wanting to blow stuff up cause he's pissed off... and his performance is a little OTT in the later parts. Pine and Quinto were solid in it, definitely the best thing about the movie. It's a shame the rest of the crew didn't get much of a look in this time around. That's one element they need to sort out in the 3rd one. |

The people voting it worse than The Final Frontier are having some kind of joke, right??

At the moment everything is speculation. CBS said further announcements will follow.

Of course production will start but with an airdate a year from now, they have a long way to go. I am sure we will hear loads at the start of 2016. Have a little patience.

forgive me but I am a big trekkie and I can't wait.
constantly watching TOS & TNG re-runs every weekend (I've been watching space 1999, which is also awesome, loads in the last month or so) will only keep me going so much. I CRAVE SOME FRESH TREK AS MUCH AS A NEWBORN BABY, IN NEED OF CALCIUM, WOULD CRAVE NIGELLA LAWSON'S BREASTS. ![]() ![]() I hope to be hearing some small updates in early 2016. out of curiosity does anyone reckon they'll be casting calls in the UK. I know the recent star wars movie did this. I wouldn't mind being an extra jiggling some nobs in the background.

The great stories always return to their true forms. At least that's what Morpheus said in the Sandman comics... Gaiman probably nicked that quote from someone, but I reckon its true. What is the essence of Trek?
Exploration of the unknown, for sure. Very different people united in a common cause, noble intentions and loyalty... these things are what made Star Trek. Here's hoping the new show follows that lead. |

^Not strictly true as ds9 broke all the existing trek rules (no conflict between the hero characters, continuity, character development, space battles) while on a space station with berthed shuttles or eventually a ship, and was easily the greatest trek series!
Let's hope it doesn't follow all the trek traditions otherwise we'll have to wait until series 3 until it gets good

I think a Trek series could embrace BOTH ideas. Basically have a ship (or fleet) out exploring a new galaxy (or unexplored region of ours), at the gateway in that galaxy/area (however they get there) either have a space station or base on some planet. It'd follow the crew of one specific ship, but there'd also be regulars on the base, too. The base would be filled with familiar alpha quadrant races, and other alpha quadrant races with their own ships venturing into the unknown, looking for resources/colonization etc. a sort of INTO THE NEW WORLD vibe (like all coubtries heading to the Americas hundreds of years ago). There'd be all those conflicting background arcs while allowing for episode of the week style.
75% set on the ship + 25% set on the station? cud be a workable premise |

![]() But I do agree completely, the new trek needs to broaden itself and explore different aspects of the alpha quadrant . Like I said before, it should look to Game of Thrones as a template - multiple ongoing story arcs that intersect and diverge as necessary. |

I too would like to see a show that focuses on more than one ship/location. I like elements of the ideas already presented, about a fleet exploring a new area of space, with their own local starbase which they'd be required to dock at every so often to resupply, preferably that Starbase would be orbiting a newly discovered world, and we'd get some insight into how the Federation establishes outposts; maybe we'd launch with a starbase in construction, and then throughout the show, we'd see more of it having been built? Maybe completion by Season 5 (assuming said show lasts that long).
I don't mind other races/factions stopping by either, though I'd rather have the show focus on Starfleet. DS9 focused a little too much on the Bajorans and a Spiritual element of which I'm not too convinced belonged. A few things that I would and wouldn't want to see though; Would: Tholian, we've seen them in two (or three) episodes across five series. We know very little of them. They're one of the true alien species out there, and it would be really exciting to learn more about them, whilst still having them as the mysterious entities that they are. Cardassians, and not the military kind, but rather scientists working with the Federation. I wouldn't mind them being dropped off by a nice new Cardassian Warship though; show off a new design in the process. Would Not: the Borg, because we've seen enough of them as it is, between three shows and a film we don't need to see them again. Vulcans, don't get me wrong, we're bound to see a couple crop up, but if we're going to have founding federation characters on this show, lets go with Rigelian or Andorian. We always get the Vulcan. The Dominion/Jem Hadar; we've had a whole show on them. They don't need any more focus. Time Travel, because it never makes sense in Trek. The Mirror Universe too, I don't want to see that trash; something else that just doesn't make sense. The Enterprise; I don't mind a ship called the Enterprise showing up, but I don't care to see another Enterprise. Lets have the focus on a different ship (or ships). Q, just because omnipotence. |

Agree with most of what has been said.
What I would most like to see is some semblance of a basic story arc and at least a bit of planning ahead when writing episodes. So not a Voyager style 'reset' at the end of every episode (where everything goes back to normal), and not a Voyager style 'last minute techno-babble solution' either, if the crew/ship/planet/whatever gets in a bind I want to see solutions that draw on what has already been hinted at on screen and not just something a character invents at last minute. Even Star Gate managed that sort of thing relatively well. |

have to say i'm disappointed with the scarcity of news coming out on this show.
![]() ------ I was thinking the other day about 2 things i'd like to see with this new show. 2 things I've always been a little disappointed with the trek shows to date: we've never really seen the captain have a sustained romance and we never really see a technologically futuristic earth. *not that I would want it to be the main focus of the show but I would like to see the captain have a sustained love interest with a fellow main cast member. i'd actually like to see it go where picard-beverley hinted at but ultimately never went. *also it always struck me that earths landscape never really looked that futuristic. I mean you had all these FTL starships and gigantic starbases and yet earth itself never really looked that advanced. look at back to the future 2 (incidentally one of my all-time fav films) and look at how advanced they made 2015 look-LOL. and star trek is set hundreds of years into the future. for the occasional earth-based episodes i'd like to see them be adventurous- flying cars, gravity trains, hoverboards... u name it
