Mine:

10 I liked Danny Pink

9 I LOVED Joanna Paige in Day of the Doctor.

8 Mr Troughton and Mr Tom were two of my LEAST favorite Docs. Though both were great.

7 I found both Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy exceptional.

6 I LOVED Martha Jones.

5 I find props CRINGEWORTHY. Sunglasses, Tank, Guitar, Fez, Hawaiian Lei.

4 I liked Time Lash

3 I Liked Dimensions in Time

2 I loved Mickey and Noel.

...and I know it will get me flogged but...at

1 Was never too impressed with Blink.

Well, something that makes me unlike an awful lot of apparent fans who post here is that I genuinely enjoy Doctor Who - yes it's true, a TV show that is made to entertain people actually does it's job; whatever next!

I find it terribly sad that so many people seem to get their kicks from spewing generally unfounded bile and hate all over the place. The absurd over-reactions and huge negativity of some people genuinely astounds me.
It really can't be healthy to be so full of hatred and also to want to splurge that invective across the internet.

I seem to have very few opinions that chime with the consensus currrently.

But I mean, yeah: Osgood.

I like the answer above mine more though. I'd agree: I like all Doctor Who eras which seems very 'un-fannish'. Of course, when I criticize I'll criticize with gusto but I hope I never come across as 'angry' with the show because I'm really not. If I'm a bit melodramatic with criticism it's generally for effect to try and make my criticism at least entertaining rather than being one of those angry bores banging the same drum over and over again. So I'll go to town, but I'm actually a positive, suppportive fan of the show.

I feel embarrassed when I see capaldi with a guitar. Dump it along with the daft sonic sunglasses.

1. Vicki is an underrated companion.

2. Liz Shaw was a better Third Doctor companion than Jo Grant.

3. My favourite Fourth Doctor companion was Romana 2, and not Sarah Jane Smith (although I do like SJS).

4. Peter Davison was a wonderfully understated Doctor and his era had some of my favourite ever Who stories.

5. Sylvester McCoy was a great Doctor.

6. I love "Delta and the Bannermen".

7. I don't get the love for "Genesis of the Daleks" , "Caves of Adrozani" and Robert Holmes as a writer.

8. While I don't rate Adric and Mel too highly as companions, I don't think they were as bad as many others say.

9. There are too many stories set in modern day Earth in New Who.

10. Rose was a million times better with Eccleston than she was with Tennant.

11. Most (but not all) of the specials, be they at Christmas or in 2009 were dire.

12. The Doctor should never be a romantic lead.

Agree with a number of the above, especially 1 to 6 and 10.

Umm.....Like them both, but would rate the Hartnell era higher than Troughton's era. Think that's a bit out of step? And going by DS, think a lot of people don't rate series 6: that's a favourite of mine, and includes some of the best C21 Who episodes IMO.

Mainly, I think a big difference is that not only have I enjoyed every era of Who to a greater
or lesser extent, but don't think there's such a thing as a Who story with no redeemable features at all where I would use the emotive word HATE. And you see it a lot about the net. I HATE this story/character/era/Doctor/Showrunner, etc. Really? Okay then....

At its worst, Who can be weak, badly written/acted and, worst of all, Dull....but I don't hate any of it. Even The Dominators has a great TARDIS crew to numb the pain! (I exaggerate.)

In other words, fandom often indulges in hyperbole, and don't think I do that....generally speaking. 'course, I might just lack self awareness!

1) William Hartnell is an awesome Doctor and love talking about him on this forum(As hardly anyone else does)

2)Colin Baker is an awesome Doctor and I love most of his stories(barring the obvious two)

3)Peter Davison is neither dull nor bland and is seriously underrated.

4)Sylvester McCoy is a great Doctor.

5)Genesis Of The Daleks and Talons Of Weng-Chiang are seriously overrated.

6)Series 2 of New Who is one of the best ever.

7) I prefer Rose in Series 2 as opposed to Series 1.

8)I liked The Lion, The Widow and The Wardobe

9)Vincent and The Doctor seriously sucked.

10) I love Adric and Mel......

(Okay, just joking on that last one but couldn't think of a tenth answer!)

Both the classic era and the modern version of the series are flawed and sound in equal measure.

A difficult question to answer, as I'm not sure what TYPICAL fans really think. I know what the noisy ones like and don't like, but they tend to drown out the 'silent majority'!

Clara is my favourite Companion, but then I've liked all the new Who Companions, and all the Doctors which is pretty boring really

I'm with you. IMO Season nine and two are good compared to most television. I've found the other seven seasons excellent.

Well said. Criticism is always valid. A show can be loved but nothing is ever perfect.

I also loved Vicki and Liz. Agree mostly with your last point but not the word "never."

I liked Mel .... MOST of Vincent and the Doctow was overrated imo. I loved the last scene, the curator and Tony Curran however.

I loved Martha Jones too and really disliked the way she was treated as an afterthought and 'not Rose'.

I dislike the guitar and really dislike the sonic glasses.

I bloody love River Song.

I didn't rate Blink at all.

I do agree that Tony Curran was excellent and the curator scenes were good but aside from that, very dull as was the vast majority of Series 5(Imo)

I agree with a lot of your post. I think even the most dismal of stories has a little something I like in it. Paradise Towers I love the scenes with The Doctor and The Deputy Caretaker, Love and Monsters, Jackie shines and The Rings Of Athaken, the pre-credits stuff was good.

The Dominators I think the bickering between the two villians of the piece make the story a bit more interesting as well.

Personally I think Troughton's Era is better than Hartnell's, because of the type of stories towards the end of Season 4 and all of Season Five. I liked Hartnell's stories but it was mainly the sci-fi ones I liked better, though there were some good historicals like The Crusades.

Definitely agree with point 10, thought their relationship worked so much better as a strong platonic interest than the romantic nonsense that followed.
And yes, the Christmas specials have been mostly disappointing.

I'd also add
1. my disapproval of the sonic sunglasses (no sonic screwdriver? Who decided that was a good idea?)
2. Martha Jones was completely underrated and underused - i actually thought she was a better character than rose!
3. I liked danny pink
4. I think Matt Smith out-acted John hurt and David tennant in the 50th anniversary special
5. I love the character of missy but hate the fact that she's the master regenerated
6. Although I actually like river song I've never quite understood why the Doctor married her.....

I really dont think disliking the Sonic Sunglasses counts as an 'unpopular' opinion.

1) Hartnell was crochety old man and no one would want to travel space and time with statler and waldorf rolled into one person being a boring misery all the time

2) Matt Smith was too young for the role and basically feels like he's going to stop you on the street to ask for your card details to save the bengali tigers while showing you his wrist bands. He was basically Amy pond's bitch and the dynamic was all wrong.
Asperger sufferer in space was his take on the part.

3) Doctor who is a light hearted show at heart. When the show takes itself too seriously it is at its worst.
When the show was "corrected" in 1980 and a lot of the humour removed from it, that was the beginning of the end for the original era,

4) The first run of the show shouldn't be referred to as classic who. Only about 10% of it is classic. Calling it "the original series" is enough.

5) the McCoy era is unwatchable. Whenever it is discussed there are so many excuses trotted out about micheal grade and behind he scenes stuff...
Well to those with out nostalgia we can only judge by what is on the screen and it's not good at all. McCoy can't act and the intro theme is just atrocious.
