For those who thought the iPhone 6 had a problem with bending should see how bad the new Nexus 6P is.

It would seem to be manufactured out of something like plasticine.

This really is a phone not be carried in a pocket (or anywhere else where it might have any amount of force exerted on it).

Sometimes the prettiest phones aren't always the most durable.......then again Apple, LG, Sony and Samsung seem to manage it........

That is bad and I mean really bad, someone somewhere forgot to put the device through rigourous testing so this could be avoided. There was me thinking the build quality on the phone was done with premium materials, as the bloke in the video explain it isn't held together that well.

The guy that made these videos doesn't have much credibility after his first video was shown to be very flawed.

In the first video he cracked the screen, weakened the screen a bit more by burning it for several seconds and then he was able to bend the phone.

Other videos and reviews have been posted showing that applying a reasonable amount of force to the phone does not result in the device bending.

What is perhaps a bit unusual is that a lot of the phone's strength comes from the screen, so if the screen breaks then the device will be much more susceptible to bending.

I'm not at all worried about my Nexus 6P bending.

Looks pretty but to the touch/feel the build quality is garbage.

Considering the internal metal reinforcement component isn't attached to the rest of the phone would back up your comment. Seems a stupid design.

That is a major design flaw right there. I suppose it's part of the consequence of manufacturers trying to make ever thinner smart phones that potential weakspots can easily show up, but how that wasn't shown up on testing the 6P for mechanical durability (assuming they did something like that) is a potential embarrassment for both Google & Huawei.

Huawei are the third biggest phone manufacturer in the world so they know how to build phones to a build quality. The 6P appears to be of the very highest build quality of any phone they have made (and probably anyone else). But high build quality doesn’t equate to a durable design or even a good design. It’s a big thin slab that is delicate. Most people won’t have a problem with this as most people don’t see the problems with their phones that make such an impact on the internet.

The best thing about Android is that, unlike iOS, you have choice. There are many great phones you can buy if you are worried.

Aside from durability issues, I am surprised Google went with Huawei at all. They have been accused of spying for the Chinese and there was even the notion of "Spy chips" with subroutines built into the chipset to acquire/data mine usage data (particularly hardware like routers). Even if it is all a load of rubbish, surely it has the US at a level of distrust with this company. Not to get into politics but just to make clear that the iPhone although manufactured in China, is implemented by Taiwanese company Foxconn. Similarly many of the Nexus products have been designed by either Korean or Taiwanese. This is the first time I believe Google are running with a pure Chinese brand.

I got mine today, and it came with a case. It doesn't feel weak at all, like a coke can. I am not going to see how much pressure it can withstand, but I don't believe I will have any problems with it.

However, given its size, just like the iPhone 6+, it's not something that will go in a back pocket anytime soon. I think it's fair to say, I'd consider both of these phones to suffer potential damage if I did.

I'll reserve judgement on the video fake, at least until we get copycat idiots visiting malls seeking yet another pocket bendy phone to target.


An interesting aspect is that despite having a large 5.7" screen, the dimensions are much the same as the 6s Plus. That sounds good for Apple in that they can likely keep near the same size chassis for the next few years.

And the use of OLED is not a surprise, much of now China is switching production capacity to that screen technology to better compete at the high end.

I'm not a huge fan of OLED, so I am unsure how well I'm going to get on with the 6P.

I mean, it has a fixed battery, no SD card slot, OLED screen, Snapdragon 810. I should hate it, but in just one day I'm finding the camera is stunning and the screen very clear, and I've not even enabled the toned down colour profile yet.

Battery shows promise too, but it's far too early to say yet.

The phone should be great, but seems to be lots of issues with build quality, i know most are fine, but i'd hate be one of the unlucky few with screen problems or lumpy bits.

It looks smooth when the youtuber uses it at the beginning. OMG when he snaps it in half... Holy Crap. I'm not gonna buy it.

The unevenness of the rear panel, due to it being glued, is a genuine concern and issue. Far more of an issue in fact but less sexy showing in photos or video.

Mine is okay luckily. I assume they're dealing with the quality control issue hence the delay many people are suffering.

Not good for Huawei, but it's sadly not uncommon for the first batches on fullscale production to have problems. It happens to all, even though that's not an excuse.

Must be the stupidity of the 'me too' search for thinness.

I would see a bit less weight as being something more attractive, though I'd even forgo that if they also used extra girth to increase battery capacity.

The battery is quite big in the 6P, although I am a little concerned about it. I use phones quite a lot, without long breaks, so the Doze function isn't really going to work too well for me in practice (as it does on a tablet).

I took my phone off charge at 7am and it was down to 32% before I put it on charge 30 minutes ago. That's poor, but I am using it a lot while setting up, taking photos and recording some 4K & slow motion videos that I'm uploading to my site later.

Nevertheless, left as it was, it would have been dead by around 3-4pm which is bad! Like I said with the Galaxy S6 and other phones with fast charging, it's all very good being able to top it up quickly - but I'd rather have better battery life in the first place.

The phone doesn't feel too thin to me though, although it's now in a case as I know it will get filthy/scratched if left as nature (sorry, some fancy designer) intended.

Yeah I would take the whole bend thing with a large pinch of salt. There are a number of tests made which counter the 1 video made. The earlier batches (it seems to be graphite models) have a slightly raise lip at the bottom.

Not aware of this being a problem on the Frost or Ali models - earlier days as the second batches are currently being rolled out.

To be honest most aren't going to put their phones thorough this sort of treatment.
Having done a bit more research I have to agree with the video. The design is basically flawed. Battery one end, logic board the other. Gap in the middle. No go!. Weak point.
This doesn't mean they are all going to bend. Let's remember this. If I liked the phone I would still buy it but I would just be careful.

The effort applied is considerable to do this. Having said that it prompted me to pick up my iPhone 6 and at least give it a go. Not too hard but just enough to kind of feel how much I would have to force it to bend it.
The bloody thing is solid I can tell you. Would require real force to warp it. Check out the guy's iPhone 6 or 6s bend video. In the end he had to use his palm to actually bend it and even then the screen hadn't cracked and it still worked!!!
But you know, that's why they cost so much I guess.

Bottom line. I could sit on my iPhone 6/6+ and it would survive.... easily!.
I would not under any circumstances, sit on the Nexus.
This doesn't make it a bad phone though.
You shouldn't sit on your phone..... obviously!!

The iPhone simply never bent in the middle whilst the likes of Consumer Reports only measured the low strength at the middle!

Most in use normal bends were down to using it in the wrong pocket. It would be interesting to see a list of strenagths at each new phones weak point, alumiium phones having an especially long history of bend problems.

But thats like asking to see Wifi signal,mobile signal and GPS signal strength data etc. Corporates and their supporting media industry cant have consumers being able to inteligently choose can they?
