Especially for really great stars like Ian from Eastenders, Susan Kennedy from Neighbours and Audrey in Coronation Street?

Who else should get an oscar?

Some of the acting is as good as Hollywood on a stricter time schedule and less budget, they deserve recognition!

Charley Webb would get best actress and sexiest female, She would also pick up the oscar for best storyline that she spearheaded.

On a lighter note all the Deborah haters would pick up an oscar for best drama sequence when they get filmed watching the queen of the dales clean up at the oscars

Oscars are awarded to the film industry not tv

Do you mean Emmys?

Eerrrr no!

Television have their equivelents anyway in BAFTA for Television Awards and the Emmy's in America which does award to other countries too if shown over there and don't forget all the Tv Guide Awards. I mean thats what the TV stars get really exited about!

The main stipulation of the Oscars is that a film should be shown in a certain number of cinemas. So the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special might qualify, but a typical TV series/episode would not.

No, because oscars are for films, not television.

That's like suggesting that adverts should be included at the grammy's.

Makes zero sense.

The only award she would be worthy of is a specially created Most Sour Faced Mardy Unlikeable Cow Who Runs The Gamut Of Emotions From A To B Award.

No, but I agree that they should not just be classed as soap actors/actress and should get the same acclaim/recognition as others in the field. There is an unwelcome snobbery about it

The Oscars are an American film awards ceremony. Why would they ever include British TV soaps? They don't even include American TV dramas.

There is enough back slapping and congratulating going on thank you, So no! We do not need any more soap awards, we have tv choice, tv times, bsa, nta's, bafta, rts, broadcast, tric, all about soap, Inside Soap, outside soap, disappear up your own bottom soap award, etc etc etc etc etc.

The Oscars are for US movies. If they did include soap actors from the UK then Antony Cotton and Letitia Dean should ......only joking they are both awful. We have our own award shows for TV dramas including awards for soaps and soap actors and things like Inside Soap Awards too. I do see where you are coming from that soap actors and actresses work very hard to film in a very short time frame for each week's episodes. They don't get much time to learn lines and rehearse. Big budget films allow the actors much more time to get it right. Even so I don't think you can compare the likes of the Audrey actress in Corrie to actresses like Judi Dench.

Definitely not but they'd be ideal for the Golden Raspberry Awards or the Razzies

I sort of agree. On a film actors have so much time to rehearse, prepare, reshoot in order to get the best performances. Soap actors have to deliver their best so quickly and so often. Not that they're always good but when they are it makes you appreciate them so much more.

There's so many soap operas around the world though and so many episodes. It'd take far too long for them to whittle down any nominations to a final list for an awards show like the Oscars.

A great point. A Hollywood actor could match or better that performance but they'd do it with breaks, rehearsals, reshoots etc.

Its why great soap actors really deserve the praise they get.

exactly. Its performances like Ian's on the live episode, and the ones below that are especially worthy of "an Oscar for outstanding acting contribution to the entertainment industry" So it would just be one a year.

I wish we had an awards ceremony like the Emmys, with tons of categories, no soap snobbery, and awarding ALL of the shows on TV, both British and International.

Who else do you think would be worthy of this honor? Should Eastenders Pam and Les rub shoulders with Meryl Streep as they pass each other after collecting their awards?
