But you never miss an opportunity pique her up on any occasion.
I have already explained the meaning of this phrase, it does not have any negative connotation for any Russian, on the contrary its a faith in every person and his unlimited abilities!

Doesn't make it less funny, or the sentiments any different actually.

A Russian DID NOT SAY IT.

The cultural connotations were from the Uk to the Uk. And understood as pejorative, although, as I've said, not meant too seriously.

I'm not totally sure how you meant this, but it made me laugh. It sounds like a new thread:-

'I support and love Kellie, despite her clear objections to wearing anything flattering. I will vote for her as she squeals her way round the floor, as per usual.'

'I support and love Jay, despite his clear objections to animated facial expressions. I will vote for him as he spins and wafts his way around the floor, as per usual.'

'I support and love Georgia, despite her clear objections to any adjective other than 'amazing'. I will vote for her as she dances sweetly and forgettably across the floor, as per usual.'

Really can't think of anything for Katie. Oh dear.

I really like Anita, Kellie, Jay and Georgia, btw. Also probably Katie if I could remember...

Sorry, was just a tongue in cheek comment that I love Anita, despite some claims that there is nothing even remotely likeable about her dancing - and my subjective opinion is WRONG.

Enjoyed your commentary on other dancers, too, haha.

Of course it does. Phrased differently it would have conveyed something rather less grandiose than "we're doing it for the people."

No matter.

Calm down. Gleb said that to Anita and then she said it in an interview.
It can be negative for Brits, for the Russians it is a positive connotation, meaning that everyone can learn to dance/ to ride a bike if you want.
***
Instead of thanking me for the explanation, some people are very sad to lose another reason to hate Gleb

Get on, he's far too silly, arrogant and 'Boogie Nights' to actually hate.

And Anita didn't repeat it from HIS cultural background, she repeated it from hers, so there's something different going on there.

His English is very good, but then it's American English innit? I'm not sure why people disliked their interview so. Anita quoted Gleb backstage telling her they needed a miracle to get through. Seems to me they know their limitations. Gleb said also in the clip of 'Goodbye Helen' that Helen should not be out. I don't think either take for granted their place in the semi-final.

[quote=Rhumbatugger;80693986]How about 'we're really happy that people liked it'?

'Doing it for the people', is funny and means what? That the people don't care if it's rubbish as a dance, we're standing here shoulder to shoulder with you for good ole rousing UP YOURS to the foul bourgoisie (who know it's a bit crap)'?

I think Gleb saying (in response to Zoe's 'the audience applause must've felt incredible) 'yes it was amazing, we're dancing for the audience and people [who have saved us from two dance offs]' means exactly that. Nothing more. Nothing less.

That they're dancing for all the people who vote for them each week, without whom they woudn't still be in the competition.

Or, in your book, he's giving a subliminal 'UP YOURS to the foul bourgeoisie' and is making a point about dancing for the common serf.

Isn't the extrapolation ... a bit much? Just a little bit tenuous?!

No doubt when he shouts 'boom' up the stairs next week he's inciting people to bomb Elstree.

Someone suggested Gleb for Che Guevara but he's more Fidel Castro.

Post of the day, if not the week.

Boom!

Banana,

Of COURSE it's silly, but the arrogance is there - the content doesn't matter, the execution doesn't matter, as long as it's 'wham bam, look at me chest, wink, and Anita doing a bit of random draama, it'll FOOL you all.

And it has.

The people indeed.

Gleb-hater detected. Hatred destroys the soul, be careful.
You just pretend to not understand.

Indeed. Though I think Gleb is hated by default as he's paired with the thoroughly rotten Anita.

I appreciate you're new - welcome, by the way - but it's against the. Terms and Conditions to routinely call other posters such things as 'haters' or 'fanboys' and a quick way to ensure a short posting stay.

Yes it is, but he very likely doesn't think in English - at least for some of the time - and it's unreasonable to expect him to have the full subtlety of the English language at his disposal.

Just pissed off with all the current picking at anything and everything that Anita & Gleb do at the moment. And I'm not even supporting them!!
