I find the training clips a waste of time. One week they made Danny look rubbish. I think that was the week he did his amazing QS. Daisy often looks quite good in rehearsal then can be disappointing on the night. Tonight Laura and Giovanni looked as if they just walking through their routine. Impossible to judge what it is like. We only see what they want us to see.

Exactly.

You get shown what the producer wants you to see, edited from a lot more than a few minutes of video footage.

They can project any perception they choose in this way.

Unless it's a live transmission, TV is "all smoke and mirrors," some people can't understand that. Even then it's open to manipulation by deft use of different camera angles.

Take pop video footage of teenager girl groups singing and dancing at the same time. The voices are usually mimed and in the "dance" they often don't take more than three steps before they cut to another angle, 'cos most of 'em can't dance.

What Ian said was that the Samba looks fast and sometimes it's hard to finish all the arm moves. I do agree with him, on top of that, will Laura be able to dance twice this fast number on heels, if need be. Sometimes it's essential you play safe, one mistake and they will be marked down. I also think that they will dance towards the front end, giving her more time to rest her ankle, should she be required to dance again.

Her VW's and American Smooths were the best I have seen I think. Just gorgeous!

It was so flat footed. Yes it was fun ... Ola didn't choreograph it so it was blissfully devoid of star jumps but all the same ... not in the same league as Caroline, Kimberley, Natalie, Denise, Jay, Claudia or a trillion other celebs since.

Oh no Zoe, hopefully she won't be reviewing Doctor Strange when she appears on Film 2016 tonight.. The Joker and Harley Quinn are most definitely NOT Marvel but DC.

I think that Louise will dance clean and safe as she has done every other week and by that i mean boring.

It would have to be done wearing a Spandex jumpsuit I think.

I agree with what you said about Louise - we will be treated to yet another boring dance from her on Saturday

Laura has just tweeted that she has tried on her heels for the first time in two weeks. She is not sounding happy.

If she is not happy wearing them on Wednesday, imagine doing a fast Samba once, may be twice on Saturday.

Might be a daft question but can Laura not dance it with lower heels?

Laura's ankle still looks stiff. She is still having physio so it sounds as if she should dance in lower heels.

There's no way I'd be able to dance in the heels they wear. I'd definitely need a lower heel than those most of the ladies wear regularly.

Are they purchased "off the peg" as it were - or are they made specifically for each contestant's individual requirements? Does anyone know?

Think they are supplied by International Dance Shoes - Don't think they are made to order unless special colours like Caludia's red white and blue for her first routine on show

He's had that problem with every single dance so far (except QS)

If I was on Strictly, they'd have to order special shoes for me. I have feet like no-one else on earth!

I get the feeling that Ed thinks he's doing better than he really is.....That's the trouble with politicians.

Of course Strictly introduced two dances that year - Charleston and Rock 'n' Roll. The latter never really took off:

Song spoiler for Saturday:
Spoiler
Interesting Natalie and Vincent's music is Danny and Oti's Jive music.

He was interviewed this morning on GMB and said that he expects to be in the dance off every week.

So, your feeling may not be correct. Your appraisal of politicians is spot on though.

Hmm.. Call me cynical, but I think that's politico speak for, "please vote for me,"

Never listen to the radio in the mornings. I was just going by his attitude on ITT.

It always makes me laugh when the celebs on ITT say things like "WE are improving...." etc. They are the ones who are, or should be, improving; their pro partners have spent the last goodness knows how many years learning their craft. The celebs don't seem to realise what the pros are dancing is all very low key stuff for them.

I feel the same, and it makes me chuckle. But I think the pros probably encourage the celebs to feel like they're in a real partnership eg win together, fail together and say stuff like "we did that really well." It's a confidence building technique.

Indeed - that always makes me chuckle too. The pros are always really polite and manage to keep a straight face.
Although I do remember a training clip, years back, of Anton and whomever was his partner that year - and the partner said something to him about we are getting better - Anton said, well you are, I already know how to dance.

I know exactly what you mean... but bet if they said "I am improving" though, they'd be accused by some of the more rabid critics of not acknowledging that they are in a partnership.
