I loved him in Sharpe.

I once wound up a meeting early to get home in time to watch it. I was down in London with some quite senior people and at about 1.30pm I made it clear they needed to move it along because I had no intention of staying beyond 2.30 (I had to drive back to Shropshire).

One of them asked why I was in such a hurry and it didn't occur to me to lie. I just said "Sharpe is on tonight" with a voice that suggested it should have been bloody obvious why I neded to leave.

Lucky they had a sense of humour.

Reminds me of when I fell asleep during a work meeting I was meant to be taking the minutes of, and my boss kicked me under the table to wake me up.....afterwards she asked me why I was that tired and I confessed Life on Mars had been on the previous evening and due to thoughts of the Guv I hadn't slept much

Sharpe was great! *bastads* it seems perfectly logical to me!! it's years and years ago now but way back in the early 1980s i went to an evening class that went from full to no one overnight when Brideshead Revisited started!! The teacher said exacly the same thing had happened when I Claudius was shown! (i LOVED i claudius)
of course tv doesn't have the same effect now as it is accessible if you miss it....
