*places hot (careful now) apple pies and large jug of cream in Chin proof safe*
Did anybody see This Farming Life 7pm BBC2? Last episode, and first one I've seen. There were lovely Highland cows and calves, and I thought of you planets!
I'm just home from dinner at my son's, and there was no pud, so those pies are just the ticket! *adds vast jug of steaming custard*

Phwoarr! You can taste the bromeleeeeees

Missed that prog tk. Was watching Inside Out with son and DIL. Great little fillum!!

Had my scotch broth for lunch. I rather over did the barley so it was quite substantial but sooo delicious. To think it was made with something most people chuck out for landfill. All I did was add a few veg, barley and herbs (I added the rosemary thanks to the nudge) I bet it cost less than 60p to make.

Our parents would never have wasted a bone. I can remember taking bones to my Nanna for her to make soup from and no bones were wasted! It's surprising how many scraps of meat there still are when it's boiled down too.

Oh whenever Mum went to hospital to have another baby and Dad was in charge of the kitchen, it was barley all the way

Well done planets! The few crumbs of pie and drops of broth were quite stale anyway - hope chins doesn't come down with something nasty.

Do you mean Chirstmas 2015? If so I would consider it young! I have kept it a full 12 months and then turned it into soup, using lots of veggies of course.

ETA - Why not make it up and leave a portion out for Chins? He can be our food taster. If he throws up we know it isn't safe to eat.

Right Planets all we have to do is watch him and if he keels over we throw away the rissoles.

Althoug h persoannly I wouldn't be worried abiotu anything frozen for just 4 months. I had a rack of pork ribs tonight and last night. They had been forgotten in my freezer for maybe 18 months. Going by the smell they may have been slightly freezer burned but I cooked them in the oven in cider with root veg and then grilled them with a glaze (bitter marmalade, soy sauce, 5 spice and ketchup). They were absolutley fine and all those flavours covered the slightly cardboardy taste that freezer burn can cause.

Happy Birthday Twass,
