I think working in an environment like that, with very sick people that slightly dark British sense of humour is all too prevalent - both in the nurses and the patients!

When my OH had a serious haemorrhage and they were literally squeezing the blood bags trying to get it in him while tipping him almost upside down so blood still went to his brain, he was still managing to say things like "That had better be human blood"

No, and unlike Alice I would be highly suspicious of such a cake and the motives of whoever left it lying about!

Don't understand the fuss about Prosecco myself. Its nice but no nicer than Cava which used to be all the rage until the usurper Prosecco came along for 2 quid a bottle more.

What did you make of the cake Nadiya was commissioned to bake for the Queen's Birthday. It sounded delicious but I was really disappointed by the presentation.

I've not seen it, nice that she was asked to do it though. Did it have popping candy and weird flavours and with icing in lurid colours?

If you count block colours of orange/gold and several shades of violet stripes lurid, yes! And I struggled not to put an N in violet.

I've not seen it.....is it awful?

Really really sad news about Prince dying.
I skived off work when he was touring with Lovesexy and and queued for tickets four days running i got front row every time and even scored one of his purple tambourines. My friend was in charge of the box office at the DOminion where Sign of the Times was showing and the nights we weren't at the Lovesexy gig we'd go and watch SIgn of the Times. He was a fantastic musician. Him and Bowie are two of my favourites.....

Oh really? Actually that's quite cheap as bags go! It's a Kelly Bag which is a classic - you can pay £45,000 easy for a birkin

Who would want a handbag worth THAT much? What if your dog was sick in it If it's a £7 one from Primark it wouldn't matter

Well exactly.

I see Somerset have made a better job of building and lighting a beacon. Just saw it on The One Show. They appear to be roasting an old lady. Nice.,

Emperor's new clothes We need a small boy to appear in the crowd and point out the folly of vanity.

The only handbag I have that is anywhere near a designer is one of the ones with a little dog tag hanging off it which I had for my son's wedding, got in Debenhams sale. It still cost more than my dress and boots combined. [Boots were Primark, £12 ]

I think its a raleigh, or a radley

Never been into a Primark....i went to a TKMax once but it looked like a massive jumble sale how do you find anything in there?

It's not all Emperor's New Clothes An you get quality. How long does a £7 bag last in heavy every day use? I used my Louis Vuitton every day as well as travelling on planes, trains, it got chucked into vans on shoots and stuff for over 25 years and it still looks like new. £7 bag would have fallen apart first day on a shoot.

You'd be surprised, I've had Primark stuff that's withstood heavy use. I got a purple flowery suitcase in there 9 years ago, it's had endless hard use [I am always back and forth on the trains plus overseas travel] and its still going strong, a tenner!!

TKMaxx is still too expensive for me....mini twass has got some lovely stuff for her flat in there in the home section though. She mostly wears Primark and being skinny and tall, rocks it and looks a million dollars!

Sorry Twass no offence but people were spending a hundred quid plus on backpacks by karrimor that were falling apart the first time they went in a plane hold and through the baggage loading, being chucked about etc i really doubt a £7 bag would have lasted 25 years of that sort of treatment and look like it's a few months old!

I'm not a label fanatic or anything I'm just explaining what you get for your money. It's not all about the label. proper vuitton stuff is made from steer hide you can drive a car over it and it doesn't leave a mark!
It's the difference between a timex watch for £25 of which i bought 4 in a year cos they kept breaking and getting a Tag which has lasted since 1990! Something like a Rolex still holds it's value after 20=50 years as do things like Birkins you can get thousands for them second hand even after they are 20- 30 years old! That's just what the market is willing to pay for them.
