This should be in advice - yes I know Billy but I get more sense in here *pauses, thinks... decides on balance that is true*

I have at last started washing my winter thngs to put away for summer. These are thick acrylic jumper, knitted and fleece leggins and so forth - all machine washable stuff.

Usually I give them a wash in spring but I don't use conditioner at the end of the wash. I then dry them well and put them away in space bags. Then in autumn I get them out of storage put them in a rinse cycle with lenor/comfort and they are ready to go once dry.

Today I did a large load of such items and only after the wash and extra spin did I find the washing liquid ball still full sitting next to the machine. Doh!

So I have washed them in nothing more than plain water. I considered redoing the load but as they are going into store I an reluctant to go to the trouble. Its not as if they are covered in mud. On the other hand putting away dirty clothes I am led to beleive attracts vermin such as moths. So maybe I should redo them.

What do you guys think?

you've washed them and they are going to be stored in those vacuum bags? you can't smell a kipper if it's in a vacuum bag if they are clean i wouldn't bother doing it again. if they are covered in biological matter which could cause the fabric to rot i'd do them again.

If it's any help my wool jumpers were just in drawers for 2 years ( i wasn't expecting to be away that long) and they were fine.

Well sort. No detergent only water and agitation. I think it should be enough. Its the biological matter that concerns me a little. Ihaven't been doing surgery in them but there would have bees invisible bits of body, dead skin, sweat etc in them no doubt.

My big chunky wool jumper (it's one you wear on top of stuff instead of a coat) i wore it out and about, put it in a drawer, got taken to hospital didn't open drawer for two years. it's fine.

I'd dry them and put them away as they are. They have been washed, just not as thoroughly as perhaps you'd like, but to all intents and purposes they're clean enough. And as planets says, nowt will get in if they are shrink wrapped!!!

I just washed my winter kit in the usual way and put it in suitcases under the bed, or large plastic storage carriers.

Thanks for the reassurance. Your opinions which seem along the same lines as mine is good enough to convince me to just let them dry. Its lovely drying weather her right now, Sunny and blowy so I didn't realy want to lose that window of opportunity.

Drinking wine during the day means decreased industry....well it does for me. One glass and I'd be lying in the shade under the trees snoozling instead of yanking all the dead bluebells up.

I've come indoors to cool off, it's scorchio out there

You liberated it from the freezer when the shopkeeper wasn't looking?

Did you lean over so far trying to reach the last Jubbly on your way home from skool that you fell into the freezer and the shopkeeper had to pull you out by the skool shoes?

That story sounds familiar.

This is Twass cleaning her freezer. Beware : Knickers in view. PS. It obviously wasn't set up.
