I love listening to them at night, their eerie calls floating on the air
One night last year i was outside watching the sky for shooting stars and an owl flew right by my face from behind and over my right shoulder! I didn't hear a thing i just felt a gentle breeze on my cheek and saw it disappear over the field!

Beautiful birds.

*pokes sandwich and bottle of water through the bars for Chins*

do you think we'll be able to train him Twas?
We might get him to perform tricks using slices of chocolate cake as incentives. Especially if we feed him only on spam sandwiches and the occasional carrot!

How fabulous It is quite high here and on dusky evenings you can sit and look over the fields spreading away to the horizon and usually will get to see an owl or two swooping low over the ground hunting. They don't often come close to the road though. You were lucky!

Well it is a road that's true. But there are no cars on it and it's right on the top of the field surrounded by fields and just my mum's house!

I had a visit to a bird of prey centre last year for a birthday treat, more specifically it was an OWL EXPERIENCE. I got to hold about 7 different owls, feed them and fly them! Some of them were very heavy!! It was amazing to be that near to them and their enormous eyes. Absolutely loved it!! However, cuddly they are not ....welll not usually. Although I did recently see an article about a man who had rescued an owl and it cuddled him. Not your usual owl behaviour around people though!

Edit: Found the article!

awh!!! i want a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuug
the expression on the owl's face is superb!!!
That sounds really fab!!! I'd love to do that.

I did a martial arts display at some festival where a man with birds of prey was also doing a display. One of the big eagles flew at a kid who threw something at it i was hoping he'd pick the kid up and fly off with it

The birds didn't like the public but loved all the groovy t'ai chi people because of our chilled energy so they came and sat with us. There weren't owls but i got to stroke a peregrine falcon which was super cool

Years and years ago some birds of prey, mostly falcons, were brought to my kids primary school, I worked there as a Mealtime Supervisor at the time. There was a display for the kids which I stayed to watch and then I managed to wangle holding one! It was a falcon but I can't remember what kind. They seemed to like the kids but they'd all been given a talking to first about sitting still, not yelling, not frightening the birds etc etc.

My tolerance of ill behaved kids diminishes with every passing year. This includes my granddaughters, the youngest of whom is a holy terror They should get what they deserve in my opinion It was heavy, it was a very big bird!! For both the owls and the falcon I wore a big padded glove. Their talons were impressive!

It's a stud for now while it heals, what she really wants is a ring. It looks good so far! Only a plain stud for healing purposes. She can have a wardrobe of nose jewellery in the future

I would ask your friend up front beforehand NOT to bring them. Just say you are still a little delicate and not really up to boisterous kids yet and you hope she understands

Do the studs have wee butterflies on the backs to hold them in like ear studs? how to they stay in ifnot?

Ooooo don't know if im brave enough to do that Twass!!!
Still you writing that has reminded me i have to remember to mention infection, if they or their kids are ill or have been ill recently they can't come as i have no immune system. I had a friend visit with the tale end of a cold once and all my veins haemorrhaged for 14 months i had blood clots in my spleen and was hospitalised about 6 times for 3 weeks at a time all because they didn't tell me they'd had a cold

thanks for reminding me to tell them !!

A nose stud is very similar to an ear one planets! Ooer, sounds to me like you've no choice but to blow those children off....they are always harbouring germs! My two grandchildren were hatching colds and I had a sore throat last night Still, I did a golden milk and this morning it's GONE! [Turmeric, honey, drop of hot water, milk]. Tastes vile but does the job

That concoction sounds horrific
are you feeling any better?
my friend always swore by eating a clove of raw garlic if she felt a cold/sore throat coming on.

I'm completely well now! Turmeric milk may taste disgusting but it often nips a cold in the bud. Raw garlic is also good but gives you shocking halitosis
