You lot are so last week... this week its Tiramasu

Sorry it will be a flying visit so haven't read back through the thread properly. However there is good news and bad news. I will happily add you to my ward rounds, although I think my nearly 80 year old Mum, one week after surgery may be the most able bodied of the lot of you. I keep finding her in one part of the house and her crutches in another! The physio gave her a pair of sticks yesterday, as she seemed incapable of remembering to take her crutches when she goes for a hobble. She carries them around as if they were a pair of divining rods. She doesn't seem to have acknowledged that one end needs to be incontact with the ground.

Bad news is you ate all the clafloutis , which is why we have tiramasu. On the plus side the rhubarb is ready for picking again so I can make another in a few days.

Hope you are all improving with your various ailments

Tiramisu therapy it is then! I'm not complaining about that

Glad your mum is on the mend An. She does indeed sound pretty sprightly for someone who just had surgery! If she doesn't want those crutches, can I have them please?

Glad to hear your mum is on the mend, I have to say for whatever reason that generation of women are Gods. My mum is a similar age and she's healthier than me and has better cholesterol and blood pressure than my doctor! They are very wilful though and difficult to wrangle.

Tiramisu is lovely.....lovely sunny morning here been out and watered, am knackered was up till dawn watching the olympic opening ceremony, the thread was very funny reminded me of olden days late night WHATM similar sense of humour!!!

Don't panic! Don't panic! Two bullocks are loose and on the rampage up the road....I had hobbled out to get the washing in and the naughty pair suddenly clopped past the cottage and out into the road. I waited expecting a farm hand to be walking behind with a stick......nope! By the time I had hobbled back inside a chap was banging on the door asking which house was the farmer in, cos they were running amok on the high road just up the hill!!!!! I've texted my landlady and the Farmer just hurtled here in his landrover but god knows where the two little beggars have got to by now

My mum was physically fabulous until her late eighties! Had it not been for the dementia she'd have been still here most like, aged 90. They don't make 'em like that any more......

Was the opening ceremony the best yet? Not seen any footage yet...

Have to agree with you they are a generation apart wish i had half their health and strength.

It wasn't very good. I liked the first part which was lighting effects and showing microbes developing in the sea (i know i know what that's got to do with archery and judo i'm not sure!) and the giant elastic bands making native huts but not many other people liked that bit. It was like the olden days ceremonies that are a bit crap and go on for ever. The athletes marching in took over 2 hours and the commentators Andrew Cotter and Hazel Irving weren't really in the spirit of jollity pointing out every country which was in "economic collapse" "civil war" about Rwanda they said "not just a country of genocide" and when Nauru came through they informed us "40% of Nauru population have type II diabetes". I named them The Two COmmentators of the Apocalypse. The thread was very funny spoofing them "And here's Germany who of course killed millions of Jews during the second world war" etc.

The speeches was loads of old men who just went on forever not making any sense one bloke kept going on about "educating education"

The thread by 4am was sort of delirious

I am so glad I didn't bother staying up to watch I won't watch any of the games, but I might look at a bit of the paralympians. I think the Olympics has had its day, what with all the doping scandals, ludicrous sums being spent which would be better used for the poor people of the world, etc etc.

Did you see my escaped bovines post back there??? I am assuming they were caught and the bellowing has certainly calmed down. It was like those escapee pigs, the Tamworth Two. Only these were the Canterbury Couple

i like the olympics although 2012 was exceptional in how exciting it was
i love the rowing and cycling, i like the human interest stories like Eric the Eel or the guy Memo Memo the first rower ever in the olympics for indonesia.

If the olympics should be cancelled for the poor of the world then by that logic everything else should as well, all the arts, theatre, gigs, films shouldn't be made, neither should television etc etc.

I saw the cooos had escaped have they caught them yet?

If they have they've not come back the same way they left But surely must have got the beggars by now. I guess the gate hadn't been properly latched and they made a bid for freedom. You can hardly blame them wanting to dodge the burger factory

I've heard of Eddie the Eagle but who on earth is Eric the Eel?

Cows are like the escape committee in the Great Escape run free!!! My mum had a sheep get stuck astride the top of the 4 foot dry stone wall dividing her house from the field next door the other day as it attempted escape (from a maaaahoosive field) and had to free it!!

Eric the Eel was at the Sydney Olympics (2000), he was from Equitorial Guinea, he got a wild card and had never swum in an olympic sized pool, had never swum further than 50m. There were 3 wild cards for the 100m freestyle and the organisers put the 3 wild cards in their own heat. The other two were disqualified for false starts so Eric had to swim on his own.

He sort of doggy paddled the distance flailing about, half way through the 'race' the commentators were seriously worried he was going to drown. 10 m from the end he just stopped cos he was so tired and the crowd went mental and massively cheered him until he very very slowly made it to the end. His time was over double that of the other heats but he was ecstatic because he had been determined to represent his country, it was so goosebumpy and one of those things where you just get teary watching, because of his effort and the fact he had no chance to ever win it was about the having a go and the reaction of the crowd was so emotional he got more applause than the eventual winner of the gold.

I had no idea they allowed folks to compete who weren't Olympic standard....what a heartwarming tale You can tell I never watch any sport can't you

It's been a fabulous day here, hot and sunny. Therefore I shall be inserting a lemon jelly with chopped mint in it into the chinproof refrigerator! With lemon cookies and whipped cream to accompany it

She was on CBB one year, I'd never heard of her, she apparently is famous for wetting the bed, and herself, multiple times on Geordie Shore.

Maybe we'd get rich and famous???

Oh Steven Bear being locked in diary room because he smashed a window,/mirror with a mug. Then 'e was giving it large innit, "lemme arta 'ere, I'll smash this gaff up" then started violently pulling the door open, suddenly door opened and an arm appeared and pointed at the chair. Bear instantly sat down and started gibbering he was sorry etc and we saw the 8 foot burly security guard. Laugh out loud moment!
