Done in 1995 and all are/were in Hull - several of the pubs no longer existed even then - I reconstructed their appearances from ancient photo-copies of poor quality photos and crude drawings/maps/plans that were all I had to go on at the time.

Still it was an interesting few months.

It's been a busy morning! last summer i nicked some seeds from these enormous plate sized poppies at my mum's and earlier in the year i had my first go at propagating them. (my home made propagator was an empty humous pot!) anyway to my complete surprise some of the seeds did sprout then a few months later i pricked them out into seedling trays over the last few weeks a few died but some are quite big so today they were all transferred into their own individual humous pots

I also found some seeds on some beautiful trailing violas i planted up this year and had a go at propagating them and i have some sprouts showing through!!

It's all very exciting i've never done stuff from seeds before so I have no idea if i'm doing it right. I did read that this poppy takes two years from seed to flower as they get bigger i've kind of run out of window sill though

It's very satisfying seeing them grow and tending them each morning.

Presumably you will over-winter your seedlings indoors? Although it's turned out quite warm and sultry down south again. Still ten degrees less than this time last week thank goodness but warmer than you'd expect in late September.

Yes indeed i'm worried after the moving them into a larger pot as last time a percentage of them didn't make it fingers crossed....i've got some chive seedlings growing too as there have been NO CHIVES in the shops anywhere all year how do they expect me to make potato salad without chives??

I've had them on the kitchen windowsill since birth! I figured i'd start acclimatising them to outside after the frosts finish next spring. Dunno if that's right? If they get too big for the kitchen windowsill i have a bathroom windowsill and a porch but the porch is much colder - i was hopiing my dahlia's could winter in the porch once the frosts start..

You can have a try with the dahlias, much below freezing though and they will go slimy. I imagine when it's ten below in the garden your porch will be a tad on the arctic side....but worth a shot! It would need to be end of May to put anything delicate out. They might thrive for a few weeks outside now but would never come to fruition. Or petalition

I got chives in the spring but not seen them since...Lidl are good for pot herbs. I usually have a few pots on the windowsills.....a decent spud salad needs a few oniony chives!

The porch is at the front in between the front door and sitting room it's a proper brick building not a shed structure i've had a yucca plant in there for years.

i got chives last year from Lidl but this year no one has had them not sainsburys, tesco, asda, aldi, lidl or m & s i've searched everywhere! i bought some from the garden centre and got two potato salads off them and now i have some seedlings growing from my home made propagator!!

They might well over winter in something that stoutly built! Who knows....one way to find out

I grow my soft herbs from those rooted plants from supermarkets. I buy basil each year because it never lasts the winter and coriander in about April. I plant them into bigger pots and set outside once its warm enough. I do the same with parsley but not every year because sometimes my parsely goes through the winter by itself. I have never done chives although I do have a Welsh onion I think its called. Must try chives next year
