Quastion here for TK. I have a friend staying who is planning a long weekend away to the West Coast of Ireland soon. It is for December and she is looking at cottages etc to hire on AirBNB and the like. But she doesn't know the area at all so I said I would see if you had any insight to offer,
She is looking for a location that is not too out in the sticks. Somewhere either in a bit of a town or a larger village where they can find a pub and somewhere to eat good food ( good means local rustic NOT three Michelin stars!). A place that is traditional with some wild wind swept scenery. Her vision is for windy walks in the rain, photographic opportunities (her partner is a photographer) and snuggled up, cosy eveings in pub or rental cottage or flat. If there are lererapchuns in the garden and a miricle working statue on the edge of the village - even btter ( in other words chuck in all the cliches!)
She is thinking Limerick or Kerry. She has been to Cork before and liked that. Have you any suggestions?”
Hi An, apologies for being so late getting back to you, but footballing all afternoon and evening. We lost by one point, grrr.
Years since I was out of the county but if mrtk and I have the luxury of a few hours, or better still a whole night off, we head for Westport, County Mayo. Very popular with tourists, and deservedly so. A nice town and a great base for touring, super restaurants with not a Michelin star between them, in fact I have just booked my next birthday outing there. (B+B in a good hotel, €60 for 2).
Kerry is always lovely, but honestly anywhere on the wild Atlantic way is good.
