Well first you boil the ham in the coca cola which turns the outside meat a nice dark brownish colour...it's pink inside don't worry. Then you remove from the coke, sit in a roasting dish, peel off the skin, score the fat and paint the whole joint over with a bit of black treacle in hot water and bake for about 20 mins til sticky and sizzly. Lovely hot or cold. And yes, very juicy!

My mum always stuck cloves in the ham. I've never bothered! But now there's only me I rarely cook a bit of ham as I can't get through it all, mini twass doesn't eat meat. I could give most of it to my son and DIL I guess.

Do you like belly slices? They respond very well to the marmalade treatment

i don't get on well with belly pork it's just too fatty for me my mum loves it! and my aunty (who is in her 90s) would live on bread dipped in hot meat fat if she could!!! *shivers in horror* she's always said rather than eat a roast dinner she'd be happier with half a loaf of bread and the roasting tin

That's WHY your auntie is 90. Meat fat is full of nutrients. I was brought up on bread and dripping! My mum always cleaned out the roasting tin with a bit of bread. Waste not want not

I expect you needed a nap what with all that pork!

that's the thing though she's really thin!!! barely ever eats a vegetable never has a glass of water and is healthier than me!!! i think my mum's generation is healthier than ours basically the sickly ones would die in childhood leaving the tough super strong ones.

pork nap ! i do get what a call turkeylepsy in that if i eat turkey i fall asleep almost immediately afterwards christmas dinner is a race a against time i LOVE turkey but often have to crawl up the stairs cos i'm already half asleep my brother used to come and wake me up after 4 hours

how are you with game? all the stuff i've tried is just a bit rich for me the birdies are all just too gamey....i used to like venison but then suddenly one day i couldn't eat it anymore.....

Not keen on game for the same reasons as you. Too rich. LOL at turkeylepsy The whole country slides into a narcoleptic haze after Chrimbo dinner. They were a tough breed, my mum was the same, they don't make 'em like that any more!

Well it's about time you scoffed whatever you fancy. Bollox to those who said you could only live on fresh air and radishes or whatever nonsense they suggested. As An and tk always say nutrition is important in any recovery or health improvement.

Sometimes common sense and intuition are the best doctors

Plus a great part of the enjoyment of life is food, for most people at least......and so porkathons must be built into it

For ill people and the elderly when you're a bit limited i think food becomes important because so many of life's pleasures are gone...

porkathons should be compulsory

i never could understand people who have no interest in food it's such a sensual pleasure surely people care about what they put in their mouth?

I do know folks who have little interest in food, they say it's just like putting petrol in the tank, a necessity. They tend to eat the same few things over and over. I find that very weird I love my grub! I'll never be thin

yeah i've met people like that....never became proper friends with them though as it was obvious they had some sort of mental deficiency

Indeed, all living things should be programmed to seek the best food and eat as much of it as possible. That's survival!!

On that note, I shall leave a large bread and butter pudding in the chinproof safe, and say farewell for now. Mini twass will arrive tomorrow night for the weekend but I daresay I will sneak on the internet from time to time while she's off titivating, on the phone to the BF etc...
